Thanks star for your reviews
I didn't read the book and I don't feel like seeing the movie either. MIght be too uplifting for me.

Django -- Well, I've seen Pulp Fiction which I enjoyed oddly, but I haven't enjoyed other Tarantino movies very much. I couldn't get through Inglorious Basterds. I dunno. His characters sometimes seem like they are from comic books.

What do you think about DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby?

I'm looking forward to that movie!

BUT! Somehow my high school curriculum I was in the class that didn't read Gatsby and I've been meaning to since then So I can't comment too much on the casting I will read before I see the movie

I guess I´m the only one here that unequivocally wants to see Django I´m fond of Tarantino´s style, that larger-than-life quality of his characters make his films all the more enjoyable for me. Still not sure if I should go see Life of Pi - on the one hand I hear quite a lot of praise for it, on the other the subject matter (or what I have seen from it) does not appeal to me

I am not a fan of Tarantino. I especially disliked Inglorious Bastards. I love History especially 20th century, more precisely WWII and post war, so I see no point in a movie like that. I cannot tell you how much I despised the movie.

Did you watch him in that interview with the Brtish journalist?

You mean that interview where he freaked out? I heard about it, but I don´t know if I want to see it. Personally I like history a lot too, but alternate histories do not bother me if done in an interesting manner, which for me was the case with Inglorious Basterds. Christopher Waltz especially just stole the show in that movie.

BTW, did you manage to get rid of those annoying ads?

I am just going to say it because I like creating chaos: Tarantino is one of the most overrated directors of all time if not the most.

I loved Waltz in IB though. He saved the movie.

I haven't been posting from phone so don't know. I will figure it out after Friday.

My favorite director is by far Sam Mendes, Skyfall being one of my least favorite movies of him, but I still liked it very much. Just didn't love it as much as I pretty much love every other movie that he has made. (He didn't direct that many movies, which for me is a good sign too.)

The funny thing I that I don't even like him that much as a person, but I love him as a director.

I just realized Javier Bardem is getting the credit he deserved for his performance in Skyfall. I don0t really like the guy, but his performance was the one that most impressed me in 2012. No?

What blasphemy is this?

Yes, I am looking forward to Wlatz in Django, not to mention Di Caprio.

I honestly can´t say I have a favourite director, it rarely plays a role in my choice of what film to watch. Though Tarantino and the Coen brothers tend to make films I like. Why don´t you like Mendes as a person?

Alternate history? Yeah. I call that FICTION. Or lies -- either way. Problem is that there are lots of people who think it is true. There was a guy in the 1920s who was a horrible racist who produced a movie about black people causing chaos in the south after the civil war. It was very popular and thousands if not millions believed it true. It shaped thinking about history and race in this country.

Well yes, of course it is fiction, that comes with the territory of making a film. If people do not know WW II did not happen the way it is portrayed, that is indeed a problem. However, I do not see how the director is to blame for this. People do have some responsibility IMO to be informed, especially when it is about something as important as WW II. Besides, the negative fallout from this movie can in no way be similar to the fallout of that film from the 20s you described, not in the least because back then there was a whole societal (under)current that merely needed an excuse to discriminate against black people.

EDIT: On second thought, I am not sure if you refer to Inglorious Basterds or Django Unchained. My opinion is the same however on both films.

I do miss him. I mean, yeah, I would rather Nole keeps beating him often when Rafa comes back, sure, but I do think tennis is not as fun without him. It's obviously not as competitive, no discussion there. But although his style of play is not particularly appealing to me, tennis just isn't the same thing without him. Both in and off the court.

As for the guy in The impossible, he was really great, that is true. But Bardem's character was so odd, it was borderline genius for me.

WIt's true about IB that the history being portrayed in an alternative way does not have serious consequences even if people choose to believe that version. But for me, making such movies is still pretty much pointless. And Tarantino's only point and purpose with IB was giving it a twist of violence. Like WWII wasn't violent enough. I mean, yeah, if you end up thinking Hitler was killed that way, fine, no big problem for the society, but isn't it disrespectful to change the history that is about millions of people who suffered during those times? I just can't agree with these movies. History, especially history about wars, is a serious thing, and one that shouldn't be taken lightly. Making a movie changing big facts is for me taking the pain of many people lightly.
