Re: Look, you know, our draws are not rigged they are just unlikely. (pt3)
Raquel has a point. Not that I have traveled on my own for all that many years, but if you don´t have a friend in a certain city a hostel is a great option, you meet the most random (in a good way) people there. Plus discovering a city on your own is exciting.

I stayed at a really good hostel in Paris.

Mind sharing the address?

Going alone is a great idea, IF the person that would have accompanied you wasn't going to enjoy or get the most out of the experience.
In other words, don't just take someone along for the sake of it.

Re: Look, you know, our draws are not rigged they are just unlikely. (pt3)
I used to wait for some one to want to do the same things as I wanted to do and when I could do it. Then I found that doing it by myself was preferable to waiting for someone else and then not doing it at all. Especially when you are young you meet people along the way and maybe more people than you would if you were with someone. I except Raquel and Ana from this because two beautiful young girls always find plenty of friends along the way.
At a tennis tournament there are always plenty of people willing to talk. It's a great atmosphere.

Usually once or twice a year but last May, flew back to Calgary, then Hong Kong in Dec and Calgary again in less than 3 weeks. And I hate flying. And the family will drive back to Calgary in June.

That is my trick.

They all seem set on a lads holiday full of drinking but that would deffo not be to my likings.

And there will be lots of MTFers in RG.

Re: Look, you know, our draws are not rigged they are just unlikely. (pt3)
btw, all the years I went to Indian Wells and I went alone but met other MTFers like star there. Also, talked to different friends from different area. One year, while waiting for the gate to open, met a group of Arizonians from "active living" communities. (lots of retirees living in Arizona and there are communities built for people 55+ to live) Another year, while hang around for another hour before driving back home, met a linesman on his break sitting in front of the big screen outside Stadium 1 and had a long cool chat with him. Another year met a blogger with media pass and talked about various "nobody" players.
It's all fun! And I also like it that I can come and go watching whatever matches in various courts or watch the practice courts.
