Who would be in the top ten if the courts were never "slowed down"?
Who do you think would be in the top ten if the courts weren't changed.
This is somewhat of a difficult thing to do because of how the game has forced certain players to become defensive. Look at Novak Djokovic he was originally a risky hard hitting player but the tour has forced him into becoming more defensive.
Heres a guess.
1.) Federer
2.) Murray
3.) Djokovic
4.) Berdych
5.) Nadal
6.) Del Potro
7.) Tsonga
8.) Isner
9.) Raonic
10.) Querrey
Its really a tough call since I didn't watch much tennis when I was young so i'm not very familiar with what would succeed. I'd like to get some opinions from the fans who have been watching tennis for a long time and can remember what did well and what failed.

Tsonga would be more successful, so i see him being higher than 7th.

Re: Who would be in the top ten if the courts were never "slowed down"?
Ferrer is really good on fast courts surprisingly, he's being underrated here.
Federer, Tsonga, Berdych, Ferrer, and del Potro would still be top players. Djokovic would be hurt but still near the top, main contender on clay. Nadal would be seen on clay only. Dunno about Murray, he has a good deal of variety and would probably adjust

Ferrer vs del Potro
Points from slams and WTF: Ferrer 2920, del Potro 1390 (+1530)
Points from Masters: Ferrer 2160, del Potro 1520 (+640)
Points from small tournaments: Ferrer 1890, del Potro 1840 (+50)
But it's okay, because the top 10 playing more is good for the game!

Djokovic is a great fast court player lol you tards..........plus Murray would suck because every big hitter would beat him more often

Yeah, I'd like to see how he'd do in the '90s, because he seems to be best on either very slow or very fast courts.

Why would that be the case? Great counter punchers are fantastic on faster surfaces. Look at Hewitt, he picked apart so many great S&V players like it was practice. Once the game started transitioning to how it is today, he couldn't keep up. Granted he had injuries and some other issues which set him back, it was always going to be tougher for him.

in no world would Ferrer outperform Nadal on any court in any circumstances. even on faster hard he just has no weapons that are better than Nadal's. forehand backhand? ehh no. serve? no. the reason Ferrer can do some damage on hard courts is that he moves very fast but Nadal is just as fast
the reality is the top guys would all still be up there because it's not as though they all totally fail on faster courts. they've won indoor tournaments (even Nadal, what Madrid when it was indoor, and made final of WTF) they can play on any surface.
I think the only huge difference would be instead of having the likes of Murray and Djokovic in top 5 they might switch out with Tsonga, Berdych, etc.
in no world would Nadal drop out of the top 5 in any circumstance. look at years 2006 2007. he literally stayed #2 in the world just from his clay court dominance.
Nadal is a guranteed top 3 for any time period because clay will be and always has been very slow. he can preform on any surface speed as well
all players in top 10 currently are very capable so besides maybe Tsonga and Berdych getting higher than otherwise expected, would be similar.
I actually disagree with the poster I'm responding too, I think of anyone in the top10 speeding things up would kill kill David Ferrer. love Ferrer but the fact is he won Paris because it was slow for an indoor court, and he wins tons of baby 250 hard court tournaments because he can chase down virtually anything which would unfortunately not be possible if things were say 90s speed

Nole is actually my favorite player of the top 8. I just feel like his volleying is not up to par with the players who have succeeded before they changed the courts...
Murray has a big serve and his volleying isn't bad. I'm not a huge fan of the guy i just feel like he plays decent on hard court often.
About ferrer, yeah he does get underrated a little when it comes to fast courts. I just felt like he might be a bit outgunned

Yup, Ferrer just straight-setted Berdych in DC, after a very long season, at Berdych's home court and on carefully chosen surface, all that and it still didn't help. Yet people put Berdych and Tsonga in like top 3, and think Ferrer, Djokovic etc would be outside top 5 or even top 10. Yea, right

Re: Who would be in the top ten if the courts were never "slowed down"?
watch some of Nole's matches back in 2007, and learn. putting Murray who has never being aggressive, Berdych, Tsonga in front of Nole. you must be kidding me.
1.Fed
2. Nole
everyone else is irrelevant. nothing would really change that much.
