well, if it doesn't mean asking the organizers to change to another surface, I don't count that as whining

that's my main problem with these whinings : that the Nadal-camp has so many demands to the ATP and if they don't get what they want, they say "it's all because they want money" or here "it's because other players want fast courts" ... "I'm the nice and sensible guy but these bad guys torture me" : that's mostly what I don't like and what I reproach journalists to give too much listening to.

The article is in Italian, it reports an interview Toni gave to some Argentine journalists.

EDIT: Thanks to duong who found the article in English: http://www.tennisworldusa.org/Toni-N...icolo7169.html

he states these things:

- this year Rafa had a great first half of the year, then came wimbledon, Rosol deserved the win, but Rafa probably wouldn't have lost the match if he wasn't injured. Before the match they were more worried about the knee than they were for the opponent.

- they'd like to play more on clay but it's impossible given that 2 slams and most masters are on HC.

- Rafa would love to play Davis cup, but it will depend on how far he goes in Australia.

- speaking about doping, he says he's not worried since Rafa's clean, and today it's very difficult if not impossible to dope given the strictness of doping control.

Last but not least:

- it's ATP's fault if Rafa has never won a WTF title since it's always played on fast (?!?) Hard courts. They should rotate surfaces. The problem is that they ask players where they want to play and most of them say they want fast HC since they are fast-court specialists.(!?!) The ATP should decide by themselves, they shouldn't be listening to the players.

In another interview I listened to a few days ago Toni also joked that now it's Fed's and Nole's turn to get injured. He was joking, but still...

EDIT: this is the tweet that reports the video about the injury joke:

Oh dear, Nadal really needs to stop uncle Toni making any more embarassing comments like this.

Is this being quoted out of context?

Mr. Toni Maffiosoni-dal is, more than anything else, damaging Rafa with these kind of silly comments to the press.
I cannot-and-will not ever understand any a sincere Rafa fan defending this awful maffiosum. Sorry.

There's only one genuine solution for Tio Toni, and it's this:

Like Rafa, despise Toni. Probably the biggest, disagreeable clown next to Don Tiriac.

This.

And it is not Rafa Nadal who said those things anyway. I cannot understand why Nadal's fans defend such remarks.

the World Tour Finals is indeed part of an indoor season ... which used to be on carpet (remember Madison Square Garden ), now on hardcourts.

Why is it like that ?

because it's simple and logical, that's all

See that : nowadays' players asked to have the same surface and same ball in all of the tournaments before the WTF (players were less demanding in the old time), if they didn't have that they felt lost and uneasy.

Can you imagine then if the WTF suddenly was on clay after all of previous tournaments being on hardcourts ?

I really don't get all of these comments being said just because Nadal has never won the WTF

As I said, Lendl never whined about grass because he hadn't won Wimbledon : he just tried harder to win it, even skipping Roland-Garros for that.

I couldn't imagine in that time that one day we would have such kind of arguments

I wonder what Lendl may think when he hears such arguments.
Hey man, all those players you mentioned are hardcourt specialists and they have good ears and eyes. They can adjust to indoor events, they can cope with the different sights and sounds.
