Default Question regarding Indian action movies

I would normally consider that these movies are obvious parodies of Hollywood action hits.

However, when I looked down on the comments I got surprised and curious. Either those people are incredibly stupid not getting the parody, or these movies are beyond terrible (with good visual effects doe).

So the question for anybody who watched these masterpieces - are these movies intended to be comedies / parodies or they are really more-less serious actions / dramas?

That is the secret of parody If you (the viewer in this case) don't know what the film it's supposed to be parodying, the parodic effect is lost, and you only see the procedure that's in "front" so to speak.

That, and, you may have to accept that beauty (and everything that passes as matters of "taste") is in the eye of the beholder. And don't think it's a matter of the Indian public... Transformers 3 made 1.1 Billion (!!) Dollars after all.

Indian film industry sucks big time. They are intended to be serious action flicks and not parodies. We do have fantastic films but they don't make enough money for the producers as majority of the people here don't like watching sensible movies.

For every good film we have about 20-30 of these clownish action movie stuff that defies the laws of physics and which don't make any sense. These stupid movies manage to gross 20-40 Million $ while good movies that make sense usually end up with 5 Million $ at most.

Never watch an Indian action movie with much seriousness unless they come from serious filmmakers/ writers, which is rare.

And the tragedy is, as Avi puts it, these films are meant to be serious and not parodies. The upper middle class consumes them as parodies but the poor, uneducated, superstitious lot worship these actors as Demigods, capable of such things, and draw parallels to their own mythical ageless heroes from the epics.

If these "serious" movies earns much more than the normal ones, I think this is because people there go for laughs and entertainment. Hard to imagine anybody would take these even remotely serious in any way.

So instead of embarrassing themselves, why those movie makers can't just make a good comedies, or a proper action - comedy combos
I guess they at least achieved something desirable - they attracted the attention of the whole world.

If you classify only action movies, then Indian cinema is still lagging behind by a country mile. It has to do with too many factors such as the cinema industry setup itself, the audience, the courage to try new things, the import of technology or investment of technology for audio-video. And moreover, the brand of action were enough to satisfy the audience of 70-80s and sadly has had no change even in current days' Indian cinema.

Firstly, I would not go to say that entire industry sucks. There are really good movies. If you analyze in terms of numbers there are good movies with really sensible and sensitive subjects as themes. But percentage wise, it is extremely poor. It has to be attributed to the fact that there are thousands or movies released every year in multiple languages.

It is true that they gross higher amount. Largely from the uneducated class who want to witness heroism and unnecessary intensity in the movies and the "always-under-constant-stress" middle class who do want to watch movies which are serious and spoil they day even further. The percentage of people that take it seriously are very less though.

Exactly. If you have a look at the at the political setup too. Some of these stupid actors are provided a place in the assembly only due to the popularity. The worship of a film actor to this extent is certainly questionable and debatable. Things are changing slowly though. Lot more movies which are closer to reality are hitting the screens. The recognition is that great though but the effort and courage to explore such kind of movies are definitely on the rise.

I couldn't even watch this junk to the end. Those Indian examples are at least more entertaining

Thing is that they took from Hollywood all the wrong elements and approach - remaking instead of creating, and "pushing limits" by stuffing scenes with effects and badassness / macho-manliness, and they go with it even further which makes it so bad and ridiculous that it looks like a parody and becomes funny.

Seems that the global trend in movie industries today is to consider people stupid and to make excuses for their own lack of creativity.

Btw, this whole new wave with superheroes f*king sucks.
