However I do believe some time in 2014 (or later) he will catch up with Nadal.

Maybe you don't know this: but it is mathematically impossible for Novak to lose his #1 before the 13th of May. This means that even if Novak doesn't play at all and Roger wins every tournament he plays or Murray wins every tournament he plays, they still can't pass Novak. And that's because Novak has 25.86% more points than Roger and 52.35% more points than Andy.

Everything Novak earns from now until Madrid will be used to secure his #1 beyond May 13th... He'll catch up with Nadal in October. Wait and see.

What Raiden said was perfectly reasonable. He hasn't been holding 3 slams at a time when he's been #1 (in the past year), so no need to get your panties wet.

Yes, Djokovic will probably overtake Nadal at this point because of Nadal's injuries, but I think that if Nadal comes back really good, that by the end of their careers Nadal will have had more weeks at no.1 than Djokovic, neither of them will ever overtake Federer.

So? It's not like he has to win CYGS to hold #1. This year he will have much less to defend compared to the last year, so his #1 position mid-year should be easier to hold

But you're right these kinds of things are very difficult to predict. So many variables.
Well said, very realistic and objective, unlike most idiots on here

If he does well in IW/Miami + decent clay season he's locked to pass Nadal.
Federer will have reduced schedule (missing Miami for starters) and has OG final coming off, Wimbledon, IW, Madrid points to defend...even if he does manage to defend it all that would probably just mean he'll hold on his current #2 ranking.
Murray could gain a bit during clay season but that would require huge difference to what he did during his entire career on the surface so that seems unlikely. Add OG points coming off + Wimbledon final and USO win...he'll do good to topple Federer from #2.
Nadal is obviously non factor due to missing 8 months of points so he has no time to catch up until October.

And if it's not rational to belief Sampras' prediction in the first place, then the choice is irrelevant. As I said it's like saying that you have more reason to believe my prediction than the guy in the lunatic asylum's. True, but irrelevant, because you shouldn't believe my prediction either.

Nole, traditionally does very well at IW and Miami. He'll probably do very well during the clay season too, especially now seeing Nadal being shaky (and that might change btw). If you throw into that Fed's reduced schedule, the fact that Murry is a way behind him (ranking points) and Murray has never achieved anything significant on clay ... chances are that Novak will stay #1 till October ...

Djokovic get 10 or 11.

You must also prove that he has "a good understanding of past statistical trends, and the ability to take into account unknown variables". You have not done this.
In my previous posts I demonstrated that I do not have to prove it.

hm, not so sure that Rafa will ever get back at #1. highly doubt it. too many injury issues. he is avoiding playing on HC, his knees are not getting any younger.

One can also add that Djokovic was already #1 last time Nadal was as healthy as he can reasonably expect to be, so it's not just a matter ot "getting back to #1". He'll have to improve more or decline less than Djoko from that point. Which will be tough considering he's older and has more mileage.

yeah Lit, you have a very good point about his mileage. plus, I don't think Rafa's priority is getting back to #1 anyway. my feeling is that he'll try really hard at RG and Wimbledon. however, things don't look to peachy for him atm, but he was able to bounce back before so we'll see.
