When I saw this thread, I was going to mention it. Of course as a Portuguese, I put Port win into my favourites ones. Actually I don't get drunk with Port, because I only drink it in special occasions, but 2 weks ago I was in Porto (the city where the name comes from) and god, just one bottle was enough for me to be hardcore drunk, without any memory of what I did in that night. Apparently, I called bitch to my best (female) friend and puked into the club. It's a VERY sweet wine, but you can feel it's strong (17% alcohol, more than "normal" wines which are around 13%). I don't even like normal red wine, so for me it's hard to control the right quantity for Port and I always end uo drinking too much.

Generally, my fav drink is Vodka + RedBull. Also Martini Bianco is awesome.

The worst, for sure Absint. Had bad experiences from it, and only by smelling it, makes want to vomit.

GOAT thread BTW!

Gin Long Drink is a Finnish specialty. Originally made to make bartenders life easier at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952, but they continued to sell it after that.

Too bad you can't find it abroad, you need to mix gin and grapefruit lemonade yourself.

I can generally tell the difference between 'good' wine and cheap wine but that difference isn't important to me. I'm happy with a box wine that I can guzzle.

OTOH, I find most cheap beers and vodkas undrinkable. No artificially high price would ever trick me into thinking a beer or vodka was high quality when it wasn't.

^ I don't want to pass myself off as a vodka aficionado or anything. My main goal is to find the cheapest possible vodka that has little unpleasant burn or rubbing alcohol quality. Sobieski fits that bill best for me atm. Fris used to, and Luksusowa is also decent for the price. I prefer Absolut, but it's a bit pricey for my budget. Some vodka drinkers prefer a 'pleasant' burn (I don't, which is why I like the very smooth Absolut) and Russian Standard seemed to pull that off best of the vokdas I've tried (Stoli and Ketel One also have that).

To give an example of an ultra-expensive vodka that does nothing for me, I've had Grey Goose twice now and I honestly don't think it's as good as Sobieski (which costs about a third of what Grey Goose does). Finlandia's another one that's more expensive than Sobieski (though more in the range of Absolut than Grey Goose) but I'd never pick it over Sobieski.

cheap bars usually use the smirnoff here

otherwise the absolute is used in the other clubs I use to go to.
I used to drink vodka and white martini but I'm more up for a wine even in clubs nowadays

My fave thread revived

I used to hate beer, have grown to like it more but I usually go for the light lagers. Hoegaarden and other Belgian lagers as well as the mexican ones, Corona and Sol, are my favorites.

Ruski Standard is indeed one of the better Vodkas, I like it.

I also used to hate beer, but besides simply not having a taste for any kind of alcohol when I was younger I think it was also that I was only exposed to beers that I don't care for: either ultra mass-market stuff like Bud or perfume-y ales (the stuff my father had on hand).

Hoegaarden is nice, but I prefer more straightforward German-style lagers when I want something light (which is most of the time). Not a fan of Corona (too watery for me) but I do remember Pacifico being ok. I'll generally go for a good brown ale if I want to drink beer like wine (Dogfish Head Brown Ale). Unfortunately I rarely drink beer as I find it's too expensive when taking alcohol content into consideration. I can't drink to just get a slight buzz, and one beer is never enough for me.

Well yeah, 1 beer is obviously not enough to get drunk, especially if you've gotten used to the student parties around here, we Finns aren't exactly known for our sophisticated drinking culture .

But watching a movie or sports, having a beer or two with mates, it's great and the purpose isn't to get drunk there... at first at least

I don't drink often to get drunk. Only when I'm pissed off or need to get my head completely empty. Getting drunk is usually just the result of drinking, not the purpose. And I rather have one great beer than three not-so-good ones.

Talking about beers, I don't know what's wrong with the beer served in our dorm's parties. A few weeks ago, I had a horrible hangover and started feeling bad already when drinking my last beer. OK, I was quite drunk but even then, that happens to me hardly ever. In the following week I didn't drank so much but had again a hangover. There must be something in that beer.

And nothing beats whisky when you want to relax a bit after a hard day before going to bed.
