Masterful display from Marin. Breaking the racquet was a nice touch to an already sublime performance.
Good luck Kei.

Totally agree, but same player would've made the semifinals.

That was a pretty epic racket smash. Not exactly Marcos circa 2012 AO, but pretty swell, indeed.

Gasquet lost early in Marseille. Raonic lost early. Haas lost before the final. Everything has happened in a way that would allow Cilic to get into top 10 if he wins the title.
And he plays like this. At one point in the first set he had 28% FS.

Kei is simply just a sublime talent
At times you feel with the guy like he toys with his opponents off the ground, before striking a decisive blow to their confidence out of nowhere. Definitely the best and cleanest ball striker since peak Davydenko. Respect

It appears the magical properties of Marin's monobrow are slowly losing their potency

Only saw the 2nd set, and I was pretty pleased with the way Kei played.
But he's still stretching a lot especially his knee/leg...

Re: Memphis QF (5) Nishikori def (1) Cilic 6-4 6-2
For a long while I didn't really see anything special in Nishikori. Lately I've been converted. This match, at the latest, was an eye-opener. Granted, he was playing Cilic in mug mode but that allowed him to really show his qualities. Great hitting from both sides, great touch.

Re: Memphis QF (5) Nishikori def (1) Cilic 6-4 6-2
First set was a bit messy from both, but the second set was vintage Kei, sensational shotmaking. Go for the title now It's a shame he was injured in Australia, where he had a great draw to make his first Slam SF, but he will have plenty more chances - onwards and upwards.
As for Cilic, he will have more chances to win his first 500, he needs to regroup for Delray Beach next week now. I believe he felt the effects of yesterday's marathon here, he never looked sharp and his first serve % was too low against a returner like Kei.
