Hopefully Ferrer beats Tipsarevic easily and makes the SF.

Expected awful match from Fed but Ferrer . don't understand why he is trying to go out of his comfort zone when he is playing Fed, when Fed plays this awful regular Ferrer's game would prevail easily, always can return enough balls for Fed to miss but he is trying be the aggressive one, understand this pattern of play when he is playing Nadal but in Fed's case totally confusing. I mean when Fed is playing well Ferrer wouldn't win regardless how he plays but from 14 meeting at least 3-4 times Fed was there for taking

W is a W but don't see this game leading Fed anywhere except loosing the semis easily and doubt he is capable to improve it so drastically

Noserer's half is utterly pathetic. Ferrer and Shitsarevic to get to WTF SF? And people still talk about this event as if it's supposed to be prestigious

Federer realized in the first 2 games he would need to dip his level to around 20% to keep the match competitive and entertain the fans (remember he is the fan's favorite, even over homeboy).

You could see from the look on his face that he was pretty disgusted with having to make himself look so bad just to keep David in the match. But he really likes the effort David gives and his sportsmanship, so what else could he do?

He had about a 30% first service percentage in the first set, which is about as badly as he can serve without there being an immediate on court drug test, to let David get back in the match from 3-0 up. But even that wasn't enough. He had to also send his groundstrokes into the net time after time, like he did at the Australian Open and Roland Garros to carry out his Wimbledon/Olympic plan (Let Nole and Rafa beat each other up for a few hours).

Federer knew that his fans on MTF would be going nuts, wondering if he had been drugged or didn't get any sleep the night before, and that his haters would say he is finished, pathetic and should retire. But being the sportsman he is, he absorbed all of that. He knew he just had to raise his level slightly, almost imperceptibly, press Ferrer just a bit, and he would take the set, and that is just what he did breaking Ferrer at 4-5 for the first set.

In the second set, Federer gradually and gently raised his level, so he could take Ferrer up with him, and the quality of the match improved. Near the end, Ferrer was playing near his best, and then they made it to the tiebreaker. Federer finally said to himself, enough is enough, and started launching first serve after first serve in. Poor David didn't stand a chance, but at least he felt like he gave Federer a good match, and that's all Roger wanted, as David is too nice a guy.

There was a good friendly handshake between the two near the end. And Roger gave umpire Fedyani two cookies and a wink for his extra effort when they shook hands. I bet most of you missed that exchange...

Respectfully,
pseudo-class

0 aces and 5 double faults indoors illustrates again that the Ferrer serve, at the very highest level, is a liability.

If Ferrer had a serve like the top 4, he probably would have won a GS.

Mentally, Ferrer probably lost this match before it started. However, Ferrer more of a challenge than when Federer was at his peak. In the 2007 year end final Federer won 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.

Yeah, I mean you only have to look at the list of winners to see how much of a mickey mouse tournament it is...............................................

Well we all saw this one differently, eh?

Given the situation and the matchup....I thought Ferrer played a fantastic match against Fed today. Considering he has no real weapon to hurt Fed, he made things pretty akward at times. Fed himself was obviously struggling a little, especially on serve....but drew on "get it done" mode....not always pretty, but the result is the star.

Some of you guys should cut Ferrer some slack....the guy is a legend. Too small by rights to compete in this arguably golden era......yet he is out there plying his trade to the impressive and consistent maximum of his ability....testing the best and beating the rest.

So far no player outside the top 3 has beaten a top 3 player here.
