RG: Nadal 2008
W: Fed 2006
USO: ?

Difficult to look past Rafa in 2010 at the USO. He only dropped one set to Nole in the final. Weird to think of Nadal as delivering the most dominant (US) hard court performance

Re: The greatest slam performances by a player
wow Borg at 1978. over 80% and gave up less than 30 games in 21 sets???!
That's never gonna get beaten. Safer record than any Federer record even People serve so great these days. It must be impossible to keep the average that low. 29/21 average 1,4 games per set given up
Today keeping opponents to under 40 games in 21 sets is borderline impossible so Nadals 41 in 21 sets in 2008 is was very close to 40. But not even close to Borg's 29.

If the criteria is the % of games won/lost, I think Agassi Ao03 is top10(5?)
EDIT : 121/48 : 71,6 % (21 sets played)

Safin in the USO 2000 annihilated Sampras and Ferrero but he clowned around in some matches. Nadal in 2010 probably had a great record, or Federer in 2005.

Makes sense but the list is to do with players that didn't drop a set during a slam win. Plus there was one retirement during Agassi's '03 run.

Re: The greatest slam performances by a player
sampras: wimbledon 1997
just clinical, from the 1st round, all the way to the final. his best performance on the grass
actually, his whole 1997 is very underrated, definitely one of his best years

Good shout, he only dropped a set to Becker and a (perhaps) juiced up Czech player.

Agreed Obviously we can discount pre-Open Era stats for this. Not least because I doubt there's anyone on here that saw '70s tennis let alone '30s

del potro's us open 2009 run deserves a mention, he absolutely demolished dull and then humiliated the 5 times defending champion in the final

in a tie break nonetheless, if i remember rightly
what was that service game stat...118 games and held 116 times? something ridiculous like that
was great in 1995 as well, both at Wimbledon and the US

Re: The greatest slam performances by a player
This thread is misleading, it should be the Slam won with the least conceded games.
As for greatest Slam performance. Kuerten winning RG 97, Ivanisevic at Wimbledon and Edberg winning US Open 92 are greater achievements considering where they were at that time.
It's Borg and yes tennis existed before Nadal though many on here don't have that reference point.

Next time Fed beats del Potro in 5 sets at RG, can we call that a humiliation? Please don't answer.

Re: The greatest slam performances by a player
Verdasco's 2009 AO was the best performance in recent memory by a player who didn't make the final.

No, it doesn't. Only the SF and last two sets of the final were played at an extremely high level.
He lost a set to Kohlerer and needed a massive implosion from Cilic in QF. His tournament was really only remarkable for the final weekend, namely the demolition of Nadal.
