Default Re: WWW Paris SF: Ferrer - Llodra

Dude consider Llodra beat Del Po and Isner I think he can win.

Think about it Ferrer is a defensive grinder... kinda like Simon except with a lot of topspin. His serve is not that great.

Llodra is good at chip returns (like Roger) which is why he broke Isner and Del Po who have big serves. Llodra can go for chances and finish points at the net. On his own point Ferrer doesn't have the chance to ugly grind it out like with 99.9% of Tennis players who hug the baseline. Llodra serves is at the net BOOM volley winner. No grinding suck it Ferrer. LMAO

Llodra's been the BEST server this week. Llodra just lands to land bombs and pull off his touch volleys and he can win it in the tiebreaks. Llodra goes for flat winners or chip and charge on the return anyway so if he gets lucky he can break.

Simon or that Polish guy has no chance in the final against Llodra.

Llodra will probably have to serve like he never did before in his entire career to get through this. As much as I adore attacking tennis, I don't honestly think Llodra has a real chance here.
Unfortunately Ferrer can neutralize every single weapon Michel brings to the battlefield and stands 10 level above his previous opponents.

Ferrer in 2.

This might be his last singles tourney- make it a great one

There is one problem with this analysis: it is based on an assumption which is entirely wrong; You assume Ferrer is going to try and "grind it out" because you are prejudiced against his game ("defensive grinder" and so on --> watch him play at the moment, instead of just repeating this). Grinding is absolutely not what he's been doing lately on hard court.

You say that Llodra's return is good against big servers, but also that Ferrer is NOT a big server, so how does it make sense to conclude that it will be a problem for Ferrer? Ferrer is used to having problems on his serve, precisely because he's not a big server. I don't think Llodra should be particularly a problem for him on that point (no more than other very good players at any rate).

Ferrer on the other hand, is one of the best returners on tour. So if Llodra bases his game on very good serving, it won't be that efficient against Ferrer. If Ferrer can be world n°5 with his weak serve, it's precisely because he's exceptionally good at returning other top players' big serves.

Ferrer has shown that he can also come and finish points at the net. Now, of course, this is one sector where Llodra is clearly superior (because he's just really, really good, probably one of the best in the world). But to say Ferrer cannot also play at the net is just contrary to everything we've seen in the past few weeks.

And basically, saying Ferrer's tactic is to grind it out with players who hug the baseline is wrong, too. He just beat Tsonga, and Wawrinka, they're not really the type of player who "hug the baseline" are they.

^ fair analysis.

Ferrer is very very consistent and is of course the best returner on tour. But Llodra isn't a serve bot. He relys on the volley. Ferrer returns on the serve may be good but not necessarily on the volley.

It depends on how consistent Llodra is. If Ferrer and Llodra are both at their best then I see tiebreaks. HOWEVER my analysis is still correct.

Llodra has superior Volley and Service.
Ferrer has far superior returning and baseline rallies.

But Llodra wins 90% of his points at the net. There are not gonna be many rallies. Hence Ferrer is still gonna be fighting on Llodra's terms because just by the nature of his style he will be dictating the match. If Llodra chips back Ferrer's weak serve and goes for ROSOL-like bombs and chip & charge winners and he gets lucky then he can win.

Ferrer in 2 though I hope not

No problem with Ferrer but rather he won his first TMS on slow HC or clay rather than here, and Llodra has the perfect game for this tournament and it's lustre.

Would love for either to win here. Ferrer can finally pick up a bigger title or Llodra gets some success. Either way win/win for me.
