Of course. Hell, look at Andrew Murray's entire professional career. Proof positive that luck is a major driving force in the careers of tennis athletes, but some more than others.

Over a long term, no. Nobody has a "lucky career".

But for a tournament or a match, yes, definitely.
You get lucky to get a favourable draw.
On a point basis, anybody who has played tennis would have experienced this. You play a terrible shot, but due to "sheer luck" it lands it and is not returned. It happens. It you get lucky at a crucial stage in a match, it could have a huge effect on the outcome of the match.

The way Sanya has worded this poll has forced me to vote 'no'. The statement 'some players get very lucky' couldn't be further from the truth. These things all balance out over the long-term.

If you're going to say that Andy's USO win was lucky or Roger's RG win was lucky, I don't agree with you. They still had to win seven tough matches.

Absolutely.

You need to be at the place and time to profit from your luck, whenever it shows up.
If you play in a way to lose 1-6, there's hardly any way a net corded ball would give you a match point in a TB..
For me and you to win a Grand Slam it takes luck that cannot be defined without using the words "nuclear" and "only survivors"...

So luck exists but you need to work your way up to grab it.

I do believe a lot in luck in tennis however not especially about that Gasquet-Almagro case about which I just wrote a random opinion, I didn't say it was a scandal either In that case, they have the exact same number of points in the end of the year then to say all "luck" effects are nullified is very positive thinking imo. And anyway I rather meant that I felt sad for Almagro who clearly wanted this WTF seat a lot and is underrated by many, contrary to Gasquet.

When you consider the extremely low probability of how much Nadal and Murray on one side, Fed and Djokovic on the other side, you can see it's very possible that luck effects don't nullify before a very very very long time.

PS : Fed was lucky several times in a row in the beginning of this year 2012 with many tight matches won, and the Madrid clay case.
