Default How much do you think the bookies made from this FO?

I'm thinkin' of all those people who bet on Nole/Nadal before it started.

Then all those who bet on Nole after he beat Nadal in the QF. (was about to bet a huge chunk, thank g-d I decided otherwise)

They don't lose unless they are small operators.

Their programs ensure that these days they always electronically *make the book*

You have wrong impression that bookies makes money if underdog wins. Actually, they dont care who wins. They set up unfair odds for both players and collect profit from it.

Same goes to outright tournament bets.Unfair odds, monitoring their moneyflow and adjusting odds accordingly to it = bookie profit.

Gamblers can get fair odds from betting exchanges, but they tax winnings,( 5 % or more ), so in practise they still give you unfair odds.

What is fair and unfair odds ?

Lets say, both players have equal chances to win. Fair odds would be @2.0 and @2.0 then. But you never see 2.0 vs 2.0 from bookie. You see 1.9 vs 1.9 or even 1.85 and 1.85. Difference is bookie profit.

Same if player A is Favorite with @1.5, then player B should be @3.0. But you never see such a pair of odds from bookie. You see @1.45 and @2.8, or even @1.4 and @2.7

Unfair odds and monitoring their moneyflow makes their profit, not predicting who is gonna win or lose.

Cardio it's way past that.

The large bookmakers adjust odds according to data mining as money goes on.

People on Betfair and such think they are betting against other people........the majority of bets are automatic computer laying.

Agreed with the large bookmakers. They just have a good system to have a profit on everything even if they lose.

An Interesting topic and an interesting flow of discussion! Beg your pardon for a little interruption, but, what does "FO" stand for?
