I was there and it was awesome... It's true that Wawrinka did not really shine, except in the second set.
Also during that second set Ferru made a couple of very big mistakes, but then he got his game together for the third. Overall I had the impression that he was playing really quite well, better than he'd been playing before he took his little break.

Exactly. I was curious to see this stat, because it was really my impression that he had been incredibly good at the net yesterday. And from what I saw, it was already true during the whole week in Valencia. When he tries to play in doubles, you can also see that, although he's far from being a real doubles player, he's really able to volley very well when he has to.
For a few months now, I've been thinking that he should really come to the net more. It works very well for him. Yesterday I noticed that when he reverted to his usual baseliner's game (or at least the type of points that people see as "characteristic" of Ferrer) he was actually LESS successful. "Pushing" did not give him many points yesterday, more often than not he was the one who made the first mistake. Whenever he started playing with more variety and attacking more, it was much, much better.
