Realistically I'd put him above Tsonga yeah. I was dicking around. Jo's ROS is beyond bad.

Default Re: Rank the ROS of the top 10 from best to worst

1. Djokovic
2. Murray
3. Ferrer

huge gap

the rest depends on surface, opponents serve, etc. Some are better returning big serves (Isner, Raonic), some are better returning 2nd serve etc.

lets say
4. Federer (but very very inconsistent)
5. Berdych
6. Tipsarevic
7. Monaco
8. Nadal (he wins huge % of return games, but not (mainly) due to his return and the biggest % is from clay where he wins bunch of sets breaking opponents 2 or even 3 times from 3 or 4 opportunities)
9. Delpo
10. Tsonga

People so overrating current Fed's returning skills. He probably has the worst return in top 10. Doesn't return any decent first serve, when he isn't netting second serve he serving penalty shot on service line

This really isn't "listable". I mean, if pushed I would have Murray and Nole tied at no.1....but can we forget earlier in the year that Djokovic got mugged by Isner in the semis at Indian Wells....shortly followed by the "much worse" returner Fed showing how to handle a big guy with a big serve.

Too many variables. Fed at his peak had an amazing and underated ROS....always found the most difficult spot on the court to place the ball back. These days Murray has somewhat taken over that mantle....with Djokovic being the best aggressive returner.

Anyhoo...the need to categorise everything into lists is a disease best eradicated from the human race.

Seppi has a better return than all of these mugs.

Default Re: Rank the ROS of the top 10 from best to worst

Stats say, for 1st serve return this year:

1)Nadal
2)Djokovic
3)Monaco
4)Ferrer
5)Murray
6)Tsonga
7)Federer
8)Del Potro
9)Tipsarevic
10)Berdych

WTF

The stats are biased of course. E.g., Nadal only played half a season, and that was mostly on slow HC and clay. If it included the indoors season, I'm sure it would change.

2nd serve return:
1)Murray
2)Djokovic
3)Nadal
4)Ferrer
5)Monaco
6)Berdych
7)Del Potro
8)Federer
9)Tipsarevic
10)Tsonga

Seems more legit.

Federer: Nadal (WTF???), Djokovic, Murray, Ferrer. In interview where he was made pick, he said Ferrer
del Potro: Djokovic
Fish: Djokovic
Roddick: Nadal on clay, otherwise Ferrer (also says Fed has a good one)

Seems they agree with my Djokovic then Ferrer then Murray

But it depends how you weight it. I think if you give grass, HC, and clay equal weighting, Ferrer becomes first and probably Murray second, just due to how shit Nole's grass return is (and Ferrer's is also better on clay I think) If you do it proportionally to the seasons (as I did) , Djokovic's best surface is the longest and his worst the shortest, so he'd be #1

Djokovic and Ferrer definitely have scarier returns, but Murray gets more back

Default Re: Rank the ROS of the top 10 from best to worst

1. Murray (Djokovic's return may be bigger but Andy's is more solid, especially off forehands and body serves)
2. Djokovic
3. Ferrer
Tie 4. Nadal
Tie 4. Del Potro
6. Federer
7. Tipsarevic (Janko is a better returner of second serves than Berdych and a bit more solid)
8. Berdych
9. Monaco (return is overrated)
10. Tsonga

With Gasquet, I'd probably put him right in the Tipsarevic/Berdych area. Richie is good at getting serves in but not great at hitting effective returns.

Nole has the more dangerous return for sure. But Murray is the better second serve returner. Murray doesn't miss returns when he's on. He makes you play. Nole will miss returns or hit very weak ones on occasion. At his peak, he's better than Murray, though.
