Default How long before a global football league?

Given how formerly Europe-centric F1 has become quite global and also tennis is expanding to Asia, I think it's only matter of time before football's top tier league will be global. I mean it would be like the Champions League but there would be teams from all over the World. For example, there would be 12 European teams, 10 Asia-Pacific teams, and 10 Americas' teams.

But how long will it take before that'll inevitably happen?

It will take some time before you can have top level clubs outside Europe. Players in their prime want to play in the Champions League, i.e. in Europe. And playing for an old European club has more prestige than for some personality-lacking Asian team. Of course, with money, you can get big names to those clubs. But I believe there will be a global football league in the 2040s. Unfortunately it'll be the end of top-level national leagues, the global league clubs can't anymore play the national league as they'll have to travel around the globe for matches. The national leagues will become feeding leagues for the global league. I wouldn't like that to happen but I'm pretty sure it'll happen.

I'm not sure it's that inevitable. Playing own league and Champions League matches is tiresome enough for the players. Imagine having them travel from South America to London, then Beijing and back to London within 14 days. Unless transport becomes much faster, this is not going to be accomplished easily. Moving your staff halfway around the globe every week is incredibly hard compared to tennis for instance.

And who on earth would want to see matches like AC Milan vs Al-Ahli, have you though about supporters who are obviously not able to afford tickets and flying costs?

So true. Either supporters get tickets supplied by the club (which would be tremendously expensive for long distance travel in comparison with Europe) or matches will be hosted with home crowds only, which is not that fair. So, travel must also become cheaper, not only faster.

I voted for the 22nd century, as oil dependent travel must be completely exhausted by the time travel is both cheaper and faster.

Won't even bother answering the logistics problems. The teams outside europe are just much shittier. Best of Europe is basically best of the World. And don't fucking tell me about SA teams beating european teams in Intercontinental Cup or FIFA world cup of clubs in the past. European teams barely give a fuck to those shitty tournaments. SA teams, specially brazilian ones, see the tournament as the most important of their lives, LOL.

Yup, I'd agree with this. Technology would need to have reached the point where 1) athletes can be instantly made 100% fit, and 2) We are able to travel anywhere in the World within an hour.

500 years ago you'd be laughed at for creating a national league such were the transportation issues

give it another 500 years and you'll be able to zap from London to New York in 30 mins

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned...

It's pointless. There's already the Champions League that's like a global league since all the best players are in Europe. Also, the Champions League won't cease to exist, and adding another tournament with long trips like a global league would have makes no sense. Totally impossible.

Just wait 20 years and Abu Dhabi, Dubai, etc. have bought tons of top players and those teams could be UCL title contenders.
