Default Halloween (and other holidays) Thread

So all you guys know about this thing called Halloween (Properly "All Hallows Eve")?
It's coming up in 11 days.

Now, I know that Halloween isn't celebrated everywhere. It is craziest in North America, but gaining in popularity elsewhere.

But the sad thing is, Halloween has been turned from an epic holiday into a commercial event where 1st graders walk in orderly lines singing tunes about baby pumpkins and stuff, all dressed up as pokemon. Teenage girls throw parties and dress up as Justin Bieber, and everywhere you go you see a sign of a fat, perverted ghost saying "Hi kids! Let's have some fun!"

What is this crap? People don't go around wishing "Happy Halloween!"

Then there is also another side to this fake "Halloween". This is where these gangsters flaunt machine guns and chainsaws and go around bloody, stiched up models of human heads on the front door.

Both of these ideas are WRONG.

Halloween is about delving into the spiritual world and wishing the spirits of darkness away. Halloween originated in ancient Ireland and England, where the Celts worshipped nature spirits. Every day on November 1st before the coming of the winter, the Celts worshipped these spirits so they would not harm their crops. They also did crazy shit like chanting around a bonfire and wearing animal skulls.

The Celts were a strange bunch.

So, that is how Halloween should be celebrated.

Now go get me some candy.

In 1974, a man named Ronald Clark O'Bryan of Houston, Texas, laced his son's candy with cyanide and the child died.

Tennis players celebrate Halloween also.

(Don't worry, that's only Nole)

Have a proper All Hallows' Eve party. Not some stupid 'trick or treat' snooze feet.

Well, yank holidays such as halloween and thanksgiving aren't really celebrated here, so I can't say they are "gaining popularity", but you do get some kids coming around trick-or-treating during late october. I don't eat candy, but I do give the kids some loose change if the costume amuses me enough. I remember an amusing occurence from a few years ago. A kid in a scream mask went trick-or-treating and knocked on the door of some pensioner. The old lady was so frightened that she had a heart attack and died on the spot. Who says Halloween can't be fun?

Is this a joke or do you just think awful things like this are amusing?

Come on, hundreds of people die every day. If someone has to die, why can't it be something funny like heart attack from a scream mask on halloween?

Because death isn't funny.

Yes, hundreds of people die everyday, but that doesn't make it any less painful for the friends and family of each of those people.

If anything, I find a death like that even more tragic because it is so unexpected. And that poor kid has to live with being the cause for the women's death for the rest of his life. Your sense of humor is .

Thanks for the bump.

Yesterday, I was asleep, when I heard a voice cackle evilly. I woke up with a start, and turns out it was our motion-activated skeleton that laughs. I don't know what caused it, but it scared me out of my mind. We had revieced the skeleton from our elderly neighbor. She gave it to us because she got frightened by it whenever she walked past it.

Where do you live?

When you say kick them out, do you physically kick them out? (see below)

If so, you are a bad person.

I agree, Americans can make any holiday commercialized. Halloween turns into "Buy plastic pumpkins filled with candy!". Christmas turns into "Red and green gift-wrap and christmas lights 5% off!"

We are mugs

155,000 deaths, per day, to be exact. Otherwise spot on.

Maybe they were just hungry. Anyway it is a Celtic festival, not American.

Hallowe'en is here and the goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man's hat
If you haven't got a penny, a ha'penny will do
If you haven't got a ha'penny
God bless you!

(But we'll put a lit ''banger'' in your mailbox anyway).

What an atrocious song!

Here in my community, Halloween is actually beneficial because we have encouraged the kids to ask people for money to donate to organizations such as Unicef.
