Default Peak Rosol vs Peak Gulbis WWW?

This hypothetical matchup may well materialize in the future. Both of them are one of the biggest ballbashers on tour and when on can take anyone to the cleaners. Somehow their games seem similar as well.

Please discuss their games, their mental frailties or any other aspect you like and come up with who would win a match between them.

Have you ever seen a match where both players are playing as well as they are capable of? I don't remember seeing one myself.

With regards to your question, now answering from the angle of who's ceiling is higher, I'd say Gulbis. As well as ball bashing the hell out of the opponent, he can trick everyone with some delicate feel shots too.

Plus I feel he's the slightly stronger server.

Gulbis by a huge margin. He's an actual talent and athletically, absolutely no contest. Rosol is a rudimentary low-grade baseball player with a racquet.

Rosol without a question. Variety and point construction does not matter when Rosol is in zombie-mode slamming 120 mph forehands past you.

You would have to give rosol one thing: When handed the opportunity to beat nadak in wimbledon first week, he grabbed it with both hands and did not crumble. Unlike gulbis who also troubled nadal early in their wimby 2008 encounter and took a set but disintegrated as is his wont.

On this could alone Rosol ranks higher than Gulbis in my book. An encounter b/w the two could be real interesting.

If the question was "who has the highest peak", I would likely say Rosol.

But WWW? I find it tough to picture both playing peak level on the same court. Rallies wouldn't be taking place - it's either service winner, return winner or ball hits the back fence in attempting a winner.

I'm giving the edge to Peak Gulbis because he has a bit more variety, which could trip up Rosol. I actually don't think it'd be a good match to watch.

Wimbledon R1 Gulbis vs Wimbledon R2 Rosol = No breaks of serves and a shitload of tiebreaks. If it went to 5 would have also gone on more than 70-68 I bet.

Gulbis is a much, much better tennis player in terms of what he can do on a tennis court, meaning variety. But then he's also the much bigger clown. Hard to say.

Wouldn't be a pretty sight then . But would love to see the match for some epic ballbashing and crazy angles, though.

Peak Rosol knocked off Nadal, peak Gulbis knocked off Federer and took Nadal to 3 on his best surface.

Tricky one.

Gulbis easily, his ceiling is far higher. He actually has the tools to be a top player if he puts his mind to it - awesome serve, wicked power off both wings, amazing touch at the net.

This. Peak Gulbis vs Peak Del Potro/Soderling/Berdych/Tsonga would make far more sense. His ceiling is far above Rosol's - not only does he have more variety, but a bigger/better serve and more power off the ground too. For Rosol, this is genuinely as good as it gets, he's not underachieving, Gulbis has much more potential.

That's it. Too far Mr. Lenders... Ballbashers go up and down! They can't have their now occasional GOAT performances on a regular basis, it just doesn't work that way. The whole Gulbis not giving a shit think is just an act, he's maximized himself, and he still has the occasional GOAT performance.
