Both Richard Gasquet and Arnaud Lagardere deny gay affair

Question asked to Richard Gasquet on Friday April 20th 2007 at the Tennis Masters series event in Monte Carlo. There is a link here to the transcript and I have also posted it as well.

Q. This question has nothing to do with tennis. But did you seethat in the magazine Le Point there was an article about Lagardere whodenied the rumor about your relationship.
RICHARD GASQUET: I was absolutely not happy about that. This questionhas come back hundreds of times, and every time someone turns upsaying, Oh, I have evidence.It is just bullshit. Neither him nor me are homosexuals. It's absolutely obvious.

However, the French media think otherwise in fact the French magazine Le Point has been talking about Gasquet and his alleged boyfriend. Yet the alleged boyfriend Arnaud Lagardere a 40 year old French businessman denies the gay romance as well.

In Le Point in an interview on April 19th 2007 Lagardere also denies the rumours of a gay romance with Gasquet.

Lagardere says C'est dans l'hebdomadaire Le Point, daté du 19 avril 2007, qu'Arnaud Lagardère revient sur cette rumeur qu'il attribue à ses adversaires qui n'auraient pas supporté de perdre le Racing Club de France... En voici des extraits :

« Cette rumeur-là, c'est ma préférée ! Je suis à des années-lumière d'être homosexuel; quant à Richard, je n'en parle pas ! Mais là, vraiment, on atteint le degré zéro des officines (...) Tout cela est parti de mon amitié avec Bertrand Delanoë, lequel, en tant que maire de Paris, a tranché en faveur de notre projet (...) J'en ai vu d'autres et, à tout prendre, je préfère qu'on m'attribue une fausse aventure avec Richard Gasquet qu'une fausse liaison avec Sophie Marceau. Dans ce dernier cas, j'aurais plus de mal à m'en dépatouiller avec mon épouse... (rire). »

However, the French media smell blood and also in gay French circles and on French gay websites they have been talking about Gasquet being gay for a while now. I am very surprised the French media are so bold but it looks like Richard could indeed be gay. It would be great if Richard came out of the closet.

Y'know, I don't know or care if Gasquet is or is not gay, but if he is gay, he should be allowed the dignity of coming out in his own time and in his own way, if he chooses to at all - he shouldn't be hounded out by some magazine trying to sell copiess. And if he is not gay, they should stop making this crap up.

I've read about this as well.
It is a rumour that's circulating in the sports world in the parisian media for about a month according to an article I've read but it's just that: a rumour without a shred of evidence so it's just a bit of trash, tabloid journalism IMO.

The question is on the ATP website for the Monte Carlo Masters. Gasquet was interviewed he was indeed asked the question. Of course Richard denied it. My friends in France tell me its only a matter of time before the French media out him. Being gay in France is not really that big a deal anyway. The thing is Richard's boyfriend is a married man and he's got two kids. So I could see why they are trying to cover up their romance. The media don't just make up these stories there is truth to this story.
