Default Rennes CH R1: Thiem [Q] (1993) def. Martin [Q] 6-3, 6-4

Thiem is Austria's young hope. Born 1993 this is his first year after being a top junior player.. this tournament is his first successful quali into a challenger md. and he won the first round

question: did we have a young player (1993 or younger) winning a match on challenger-level this year besides christian harrison in Lexington (SF) and Binghamton (R16)?

I don't remember Challenger wins by the young prospects, but I believe Thiem's win is a bit half of a win, because he won against a fellow Qualifier, just like they would have played an extra round to qualify. I'll be happy to see him win against a DA player.

You can use my Live Rankings table. Filter the table by year, and after that, unhide the detailed weekly results and look inside for players having a blue score higher than 6. You'll notice there's plenty of them, some even with ATP wins (Mate Pavic has 2, Thiem has 1). Some even have GS wins (Novikov).

Great result for the game. Martin is such a mug, a useless serve bot. Congrats Thiem

I'm really happy for him, but I want so much more from the young generation. It's only unfair because it seems to diminish the importance of his victory. I'm too impatient, that's all.

Clezar (born 31.12.1992) won the challenger of Rio Quente in May and was again in SF last week in Belem.
