Shanghai 1R: (11) Gasquet lambasts (Q) Brian Baker 6-2, 6-3
Gasquet went up 5-0* to start. Bakes played a better second set, which was certainly fun to watch, plenty of good shotmaking from both, esp. Gasquet, who was just too good today.
Also, every single match so far today has been in straights.

Amazing stuff by Gasquet. No chance for Baker. So many sexy winners by Gasquet, just too good. Beauty combined with effectivity.

Was hoping that Baker would come closer to a win, or at least to a set. He's been pretty bad since Wimbledon, so hopefully he regroups in the off-season, if not sooner.

Yes, plus also the 3 MD matches that were played yesterday were all in straight sets.

Baker was atrociously bad today; Completely stunk up the court, especially in the first set which was horrible tennis from him ...Almost bagelled too, but saved by mental lapse by Gasgay...Baker seriously needs to go back to the Challenger circuit...He has been awful for months and just isn't main tour material...
Him and Donald Young need to stick to strictly Challengers...Baker is way overranked and will run the same course as Donald Young with a huge plummet back into oblivion come summer of next year...But probably without as many 1R losses in ATP MD events

Re: Shanghai 1R: (11) Gasquet lambasts (Q) Brian Baker 6-2, 6-3
Gasquet was pretty good today, but Baker did have couple of small chances to make this match interesting at the very beginning. In the first game, when Gasquet served, he had a chance to get 3 break points at 0/30, but missed it. Then in his first service game Baker was 30/0 up and had a very easy volley in a completely open court, but somehow managed to put it in the net and it was 30/15 instead of 40/0. Then he lost the plot rather quickly, got broken and found himself at 0:5 rather soon. It was a close match after that, but there was one costly service game for Brian in that 2nd set, and that was it.

Come on, Richie. Still great chance to finish this year in TOP-10 with Almagro losing today if you beat Murray.

How bad is Baker now? He managed to qualify, sure, but only winning 5 games against Gasquet? Really? That's pathetic.

Baker is a bad player. His run is over.

Oh come on. Gasquet should be winning these matches pretty easily.
