Agreed. Clearly the status of the Olympic event has risen in the last few years. Added to the fact it's once every four years, and therefore - in a way - harder to win, and it has a best of five-set final, I think it places it above the WTF at the moment, but obviously below the majors.
The WTF is still important, though, and clearly more valuable than the Masters events. It's good for the game that there is an important event held indoors like this - adds more variety.
I'm sure the WTF is an event a player like Nadal would really like to add to his list of achievements...

What? Its status is clearly risen (thanks to it being held on Wimby this year, in particular) but Olympics are still below WTF because it only offers 750 ranking points and its format is no different than M1000 in the past where it's still best of 5 in finals.
The hype surrounding OG makes it overrated.

TMC in my opinion is just a money grabbing exho. It has no value otherwise would have been included into the so called Golden Slam. For me Olympics gold medal is of no importance either but is in the Golden Slam so ...
Davis Cup is not important but it has great atmosphere and is fun so I like it.

that is a good point to make, but certainly they can be related to one another in that the Grand Slam is a much more valuable tournament to have on your resume of having won than the World Tour Finals. one is much harder to win too

The term "Golden Slam" was created to label what Steffi Graf accomplished in 1988 (when Tennis was just new as a full medal sport at the Olympics).
Had somebody won the 4 Slams + WTF any time earlier - which isn't the case(!) - maybe the label "Golden Slam" would have been occupied already.
Okay, the Olympics format indeed is much closer to the Slams, of course, but whether that's the reason for the naming is not this clear.
As far as I know the very term "Grand Slam" (for 4 Slams) wasn't even there or at least not important before Laver won it.
So, maybe in the future, when somebody wins 4 Slams + WTF, we will learn about a " Diamond Slam" or whatever.

The Platinum Slam would be the best though:
During one season:
- Win all 4 Slams
- Win all 8 Mandatory Masters
- Win the Olympics
- Win WTF

This discussion is beyond ranking points. We are talking about status. Most players in the world would prefer win a gold medal than a WTF. Just the american players (some of them) are exceptions.

They prefer OG NOT because it's prestigious than WTF or what, but because they want to be a hero. It's always about preference/sentiment for OG, but its status is clearly still below WTF.

Preference/sentiment/wish of being hero are the factors that increase the status of the olympic tournament, no?

It would be cool to see this happen, but I don't think this would even be humanly possible.

Yes I agree with this.
But it still seems to me that due to the reasons I already posted, and the fact that perception of its importance has changed amongst players, sports writers, etc, it is now viewed as more significant than WTF. I don't necessarily agree it SHOULD be viewed as more important, but there you are...

Re: ►WORLDTOUR FINALS◄ vs ►GRAND SLAMS◄
I'm not really sure, but I guess there might be another time again where it won't be regarded as significant as it is now.
