Re: Which USO win was more impressive/deserving? Delpo or Murray?
Delpo was impressive because he utterly destroyed Nadal and then beat Roger. But Murray was fighting against history and he did beat Djokovic in the final. Not sure why these threads get made. Both were impressive.

Oh the Murray haters will never accept it. Even if he win another one next year, they'll still say Del Potro has a better winning percentage in finals!

Re: Which USO win was more impressive/deserving? Delpo or Murray?
Del Potros was probably slightlyy more impressive due to it coming out of nowhere and beat both Nadal and Federer in one tournament. However Murray was battling history and the way he lost his two set lead and went on to just outplay Djokovic in that final set was very, very impressive. His ability to raise his level at that point after being 2 sets to 0 was amazing. Either way, I'd give Delpo the nod in that department.
In terms of deserving it more. Andy Murray wins that hands down. He lost four finals in a row, he'd been knocking on the slam winners door since 2008/2009 and it just didn't come together. But the guys worked so hard on getting more physically strong, and now mmore positive and mentally strong on court that he absolutely deserved it more.

Murray was lucky with the wind against Berdych and I don't know what Nole did in that final. Del Potro crushed Nadal and outclutched Federer in 5, two of the greatest players of all time.
. hmm toughie

Del Potro because he had to play well to win.

Re: Which USO win was more impressive/deserving? Delpo or Murray?
It is Murray.
Most deserving for sure since it was not a surprise: Murray was going to win a slam, it was just a matter of time considering all his masters and slam finals. Del Potro has nothing in his resume to back his fluke slam, not before his win or after, nothing.
Most impressive? The Wimbledon final-Olympic gold-first slam at the USO sequence is a mighty impressive achievement. I don't think unexpected, or fluke, is a synonym of impressive.

DelPo's of course. He had to beat Nadal and Federer. Murray didn't.

Why are you factoring in everything else? This topic is only about the US Open of 2012. Did he deserve to win that tournament solely by his level of play? No. His level of play was crap. Was his win impressive? No.

Re: Which USO win was more impressive/deserving? Delpo or Murray?
Murray's Olympic gold was more impressive than his USO.
The so-called GOAT was roasted on his favourite surface at his favourite court playing his favourite opponent in BO5 finals while his favourite fan Looney could do nothing but helplessly watch.

Think this nails it. Both certainly deserved their titles as they each won it, but certainly for how long Murray has been knocking on the door, he certainly has to be more deserving to have one as well in that sense.

Re: Which USO win was more impressive/deserving? Delpo or Murray?
Impressive and deserving are two different words.
more impressive - del Potro. I know that Rafa was injured and all but to hold it together and win so comprehensively was impressive. What he proceeded to do in his first final, against the greatest of all time no less, was absolutely amazing.
more deserving - Murray. End up in the position to win enough times, things can finally fall your way.
