He cannot be "new generation" at all!)
Still, the commentators in America at least seem strangely dismissive of Kei's wins over Tsonga, Djokovic, Berdych Ferrer etc.

smth that will never ever happen anywhere else.

Big respect for this country.

About the match - i honestly expected a relatively easy Milos win, but boy did i underestimated Kei's return...and everything else.

Tennis won here, undoubtedly and the future looks bright.

Why stop with cuisine though? Djokovic and Nadal could have talked about kangaroos and wombats in their speeches at the Aussie Open.
The San Jose tournament actually gave Milos a maple-leaf shaped bottle of maple syrup and a San Jose Sharks hockey jersey when he won the title there. How cliche is that?

I hear players saying they like the food in different cities they visit all the time. Just last week Monfils mentioned liking the food in Thailand. It's probably one of the things ATP trains them to do, say complimentary things about the food/culture/etc of cities they visit

It is ignorant to say and sounds stereotypical as if sushi is the only thing Japanese people know anything about...Are you seriously acting like this isn't ignorant to say?

somehow I doubt the organizers would have given him enough time to give proper credit to ikebana and Kabuki theatre

You have like 2 minutes up there; you say something nice about something you know about.

It's one thing to say in an interview, but on National television it is ignorant...He could have spoken in Japanese and thanked the crowd to be complimentary, but mentioning sushi? Really? Plain ignorance and low class

While you may be right, the match final preview on the skysports stream with two commentators, one being Peter Fleming, spent almost 15-20 minutes talking about the ins and outs of raonic's game and how much he has progressed (not takin anything away, raonic has had an amazing season). They spent only a few minutes on nishikori as more of an afterthought and Peter Fleming really did not know much about nishkori's play style and made a prediction based on nishikori's short stature as grounds for Milos winning the title with his serve and power. basically all he said was that nishikori was shy, short, and that he was at a natural disadvantage to a lot of players on the tour. It really shows the lack of emphasis on players like nishikori in western sports channels. They then progressed to talk about federer and nadal on hard court surfaces with no relation to the final and no more mention of nishikori. I may sound petty but one can't deny the preference these channels show. But I'm glad that nishikori can show that he can stand with the top guys with his own unique set of weapons.

you are making too much of it and you're a self-professed Raonic hater so ... done with you.

Yeah, I wouldn't even dislike him as much if these Muglostards didn't act like he was the next coming which he isn't as evident by that shitshow he put on today...He has a first serve, like Isner and thats it...There is no relevancy there...Servebots are one dimensional and NOT Top 10 material...while Kei has multi-faceted game which you need to be versatile
