"how could a clown like you possibly ace me/blaze a winner past me?" etc

It implies everything that happens on court is down to him. gives opponent no credit and if he is weak enough can subtly affect his confidence.

People do it at every level of tennis, right down to club hackers. I've called people out on court over the exact same thing.

He didn't lose because of his attitude. He had the attitude because he was losing - i.e. not executing the plays the way he wanted to.

2 things - Murray now has the mindset toward losing exclusively to top 4 guys, so whenever he feels uncomfortable against a lower ranked player he feels it's his own fault and he's not playing well, hence all the drama.

Second thing - Murray should be already exhausted. Long and emotional year for him. He would have loved the season to end with the USO me thinks.

Now it's just gloryless tourneys he needs to go through with much to lose and nothing to win, so his attitude is expectedly irritated.

It's hard not to when someone is so ridiculously close minded, that they are to the detriment to their favourite players legacy.

I even as a fan don't like the way Murray can act on court. I had hoped this behavior would be gone after the Olympic and U.S. Open win, but sadly it has returned in full force!

Personally I think GSMNadal is not really like that, but that's besides the point. You'd made a valid point, and then you nullified it by calling him an imbecile. You're usually a solid poster, so I guess I was disappointed :P

I'd have thought that after he won the Open, he'd play with more relaxation, but seems as though he is even more tortured than before. Shit attitude to say the least.

I mean, everytime Raonic won a point, Murray was yelling, shouting, smacking his racquet against his shoe, just acting like a little child. And Raonic was solid as a rock mentally. Gave Murray nothing. Very deserved win for the Canadian.

Fair enough, but you gotta keep your cool. In that match, Raonic had plenty of chances to choke, the 3rd set especially. But Raonic got a mental boost every time he won a point cause he saw Murray losing it on the other side of the net. Raonic's mind: "Keep going, keep going, you've got him, don't let up, he is cracking," whenever he saw Murray acting like a baby.

I recall when he played Federer close a couple times earlier this year, and Fed gave him nothing mentally. The same point where Raonic would win vs. Murray and get a mental boost cause he saw Murray losing it, he would get nothing from Fed. Fed was able to take punches and keep his composure. This put more pressure on Raonic knowing that he'd have to come up with the goods time and time again. He didn't get any extra mental boost from winning the point.

It is these little things that make the difference.

I agree it's something he needs to keep working on - but realistically I doubt it's something he will ever eradicate. He's a moody sort of player who needs to let his frustrations out sometimes, whether it gives his opponent a boost or not. Most of the time, for all the fuss that gets made, I doubt it makes any difference at all. Did it give Raonic a bit of a boost at times today? Maybe, maybe not. Andy will be Andy. Those of us who are fans find it frustrating too but you take the good with the bad.
