Would be fucking awful.

In terms of everything the WTFs is arguably the best tournament all year, leave it the way it is, there's a reason it's been the largest indoor event of anything if i'm not mistaken the last few years.

You made me think of something great! Why not have the top 8 WTA players as ballgirls for the World Tour Finals instead?

WTF is made special by being one of the only massive events which isn't interrupted by WTA matches. Grand Slam Tennis should take notes. I'm sure fans of WTA wouldn't want ATP matches interrupting them either, so it serves everyone's needs.

And they all lived happily ever after.

The opportunity for women to play the game which a bit resembles tennis is bad itself, joint events have even worse influence.

So no way.

Not surprosing reactions, neither here nor at TF. MTFers complain about WTA vulturing ATP's money and that women's tennis doesn't interest. TFers complain that ATP takes all attention away from WTA and that men's tennis doesn't interest. But I want to quote here a post from TF, slightly modified. Really my thoughts.

Quote:
Most of the people who don't think this is a good idea are basically just saying that they personally don't like women's tennis. The question wasn't whether you would like it - the question is whether it would be good for the sport overall.

I don't see how you could say that a combined event is worse for the sport than separate events. All the best/most prestigious events are combined.
Well, I don't completely agree about that combined events are necessarily more prestigious than separate, Madrid isn't any more prestigious now as a joint event.

But to the "we have already too many joint events" argument; I agree about that. I think joint events are OK only if you don't get full grandstands otherwise, and still have reasons to have both ATP and WTA events. But if you'd get full grandstands otherwise, keep them separate, maybe even in different cities in different weeks. And if you have empty grandstands even for a joint event (like Beijing), then keep them separate. If you have money to have a joint event in front of empty grandstands, then you can also afford to have them separately.

But joint YEC would be a different thing. It would be bring much publicity for tennis. And it would be good for tennis.

It's hard enough as it is for regular people to afford these kind of things.
Actually I didn't forget. More interesting matches, higher ticket prizes, higher ticket revenues. Good for the business. But yeah, bad for regular people.

How come joint YEC would be a smaller event?

Commercially the organisers would like it and probably use it to promote as a mini grand slam event.

The combination would enable them to space out the matches and possibly even go to 5 sets for final and semi-final if events combined as they can have empty days occupied by WTA semi-final and final.

Maybe, but every player would be exhausted after the long season, so noone would take this as such an importsnt tournament

Any joint even that isn't a slam is automatically shit. This wouldn't be different. End of story.
