Default Remember how much better TV was in the 90s?

For kids anyway. Remember Knightmate, Gamesmaster, Funhouse? TV today for kids just seems shit in comparison.

Some examples of the best primetime TV ever.

Knightmare, that awesome show of epic facepalms.

Gamesmaster with all the cock jokes and innuendos that I never got as a kid. And of course Jet in this ep

What do kids have today that comes close to this awesomeness.

Kids shows in the 90s were better but drama television in the 2010's has been very good. We are living in the GOAT era of drama tv

Kids were GOATing right around 1992 imo.

That said, it's true to an extent. Boy Meets World, Saved by the Bell, The Wonder Years, Fresh Prince, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, etc... so many epic 90s sitcoms.

Precisely.
But let's be honest, the cartoons still used to be better in the 90s, nostalgia or not. There are still great things like "Adventure Time", but they're rare. There is no charm to the current shows, they're too polished and soulless.

As for TV series for grown-ups, there were some great TV series like "Twin Peaks" or "Seinfeld" among classics. But yeah, I think the current era is slightly better. With "Doctor Who", "Breaking Bad", "Game of Thrones", "Battlestar Galactica" and so many others... You just cannot go wrong!

No, I agree.... but since I was a kid in the 90s that's no surprise, right?

Although when I was young I did watch a lot of old kid shows like Scooby Doo, Wacky Races etc.

That's probably because you weren't born 80s or 70s. Everybody thinks his time was the best.

Yes growing up in Australia to 'Cheese tv'- featuring classics like Pokemon, Digimon, Yugi-Oh and the all time great Dragon Ball Z (this one was particularly motivated me to get up early, it was always on an hour before school started)

Late 90's, early 200's that was. The Wire, The Sopranos, The Shield, 24, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, etc.

Now it's still good though.

I can't, because I'm not a kid anymore and thus very rarely watch shows for kids nowadays, if ever.
However, I was born in '94 and I can tell you plenty of great stuff that was floating around between 01-04. Now, I was never into anime at all, I always loved cartoons and they were plenty of great ones on during my childhood. Examples include SpongeBob, The Fairly Oddparents, Recess, The Weekenders (criminally underrated, nearly as good as Recess) and Jimmy Neutron. Now, that's just the great ones - they were plenty of others which, while not brilliant, were perfectly watchable, such as Fillmore! and Kim Possible. SpongeBob really remains the best one, though. It entered a very noticeable downward spiral after season 4 and neither of the movies come even close to recreating the magic of the TV show, but I honestly believe the first four seasons of SpongeBob can compete with the best of The Smpsons and South Park, even though they're obviously aimed at different audiences.
Now, that was just the stuff I got into between the ages of 7 and 11, disregarding anime, live action and other cartoon shows who either didn't make it big were I live (Germany) or who I just didn't give a fair shot. Older shows who continued to run throughout the early 2000s fit into that category, like Hey, Arnold! or Rugrats.
To sum it up: Yes, I do believe everyone thinks the era were he/she grew up had the greatest TV shows for children. Of course it might be possible that the standard of shows has declined to some extent, I'm not disputing that, but not only have I not done the research watching contemporary shows for the kids (and I'd cheekily assume neither have you), I'm also pretty sure ebbs and flows in quality occur regularly in TV programming. Also, just remember how things are in the music industry: Good music is still very much out there, maybe even more than say 20 years ago, but it's not playing on the radio anymore and some of the artists remain distinctly underground / independent. The Katy Perry-Selena Gomez-Jason Derulo-stuff filled with lyrics probably written by 8-year-olds isn't anywhere near the best music being produced out there, despite being the most popular.

In its prime, the best cartoon I've ever seen. And not just at the age I first watched it, I can rewatch it now and few things come close.

People will always think shows from their youth are better. The truth is 99% of childrens tv shows as a form of entertainment for adults actually suck since ideally it's made for an 8 year or someone with the maturity of one. The kids show people are claiming are good in this thread are likely just as crappy as the Miley Cyrus or whatever the kids are into these days. I am sure in 10 years someone will be making a thread that the Miley Cyrus or whoever is actually good and the current kids show are crap and that cycle will continue forever.

I've always thought that 00-03 Toonami was a GOAT segment of cartoons. At least for me.

Batman Beyond, Transformers, Justice League, Samurai Jack, SW:Clone Wars
