Golfer Rory McIlroy has put his Northern Ireland home up for sale, with an asking price of £2m.

I think you can see the answer in the clothing of Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els. Mickelson is sponsored by Barclays and KPMG, Els by SAP and Boeing. Barclays is the only one of those that has private customers, and it has also companies as customers, like the others have. But why are companies with mainly corporate customers so prominent in golf? Well, many corporate bosses are interested in golf. So, those large companies want to be seen in golf competitions, and they can pay much for it (even though I'm not too sure that anybody buys a Boeing instead of an Airbus just because Els promotes it). And of course, those corporate bosses are rich, they can afford buying luxury products. So also luxury brands are interested in sponsoring golf.

Golf just has spectators that attract wealthy sponsors, and make large sponsorship deals profitable.

Golf is more physically demanding than cricket or baseball. And other sports that no one questions. Playing a full 18 round game of golf is exhausting.

As to the money, like all other sports, it's nothing compared to how much the elite boxers make. Numerous purses of over $30-$40 million for one fight and even a couple over $50 million. More than one would get if they won every single event on the PGA tour and the FedEx Cup. But of course that is changing rapidly, the Europeans have almost totally ruined professional boxing the same as they did long ago to amateur boxing. With pansy fighters with unpronounceable names that do nothing but slap and run and can't take a punch.

The sport was still very strong at least ten years after Tyson's incident. King ripped off idiots and made most of the best fights, so I wouldn't say he was ever the problem.

It's the fact that no one even knows who these fighters are anymore and it's the amateur bs style all over again.
