Brisbane R2: Melzer def Goffin 6-4 7-6
Didn't watch it but match stats say it was awfully close with nearly identical stats.
Goffin had breakpoints to go 5-3 in the second. He needs to win such matches against aging players with relative ease. Off to Auckland now.

in first set Melzer had quite a big advantage in % of points won on return, second set was very close, Goffin even took the lead in the tie-break with a mini-break at 4*-3 then Melzer won next 4 points including an ace on second serve.
Old guys are still there, I hope that Melzer has less health problems this year.

Re: Brisbane R2: Melzer def Goffin 6-4 7-6
This match was about David's brain farts and jurgen's serve. David missed a lot of gimmes at 30-30 or deuce, and jurgen would make him pay the next point with a kick ass serve. It didn't help that goffin was mia for the whole first set, so he had one set to figure out jurgen and he didn't. Jurgen was ok, the returning is really shitty but if he fixes that, he can be top 30 again. His serve does go missing in other matches so he needs to fine tune the other stuff.
As for the tb, david shit his pants at 4-3 with some bad serving and a double fault. Jurgen bombed some serves and that was it.

Goffin's returning was also putrid even on the easy putbacks, he's gotta work on that. And the brainfarts too.

I thought youth would win in the end, but this win went to the experience player!

Similar result to their match last year. Melzer just has too much variety for Goffin's one-dimensional game.

No surprise. Was a tight match the last time they played with Melzer winning.
Goffin chokes far too often to be a top player.
