I think the medical field gives you far more freedom to move from country to country than does law.

Raquel, I have never ever felt this way. I've never thought that I was happier 5 years or 10 years ago. I would NEVER go back to high school. I hated that phase of my life. I've always liked getting older. I don't think everyone feels like you do about being younger.

Of course, now that I'm old there are things that I wish I could do that I can't anymore -- like spring up from sitting on the floor without any effort at all.

We have said this: Psychiatrist.

It's against my advice, but what can you do?

As of now, Psychiatry seems like the only thing I imagine myself doing.

I could do Internal Medicine (hard core and true medicine), only I am no a masochist and I plan on sleeping more than 5 hours a day doing my intern years.

I don't mean I am more unhappy now. I am more happy and more unhappy. So it equals. But life was 100 times easier. But also 100 times less exciting. See what i mean? Would I go back? Yes, because it was nice and easy, but also only because coming back would also mean eventually growing old again! I would't want to be 16 or 17 forever. Gosh no! You know me... I need my freedom.

You sound like my father. stary, psychiatrists have nothing to do with psychiatrists in the US. At they have nothing to do with those shown on tv. There is no nice couch to lay in, or flowers everywhere.

Oh I see star. I thought Lee was joking when she said it. Well she fooled me then.

And Raquel, I wasn't planning on saying this but since starry brought it up again, I'll say it anyway. I know I'm in no position to really talk definitively about it, but I don't think my high school years have been great by any means. Some bits were great, dont get me wrong, but a lot of it was just endless clogging along, repeating the same things over and over again. It's not even over yet, which is mildly concerning. Sure things could get worse in the future, but one would hope that the extra responsibility of leaving home would stimulate a new lease of life.

Really, mostly it's just a lottery. But most of the times you learn to embrace the choice you have made.

Also, it's never too late to change. You can do anything you want. You just have to want it bad enough. If you, you will get there whether it is at 18, 20, 28 or 40 years old.

Med School is the same. I love this semester and the subjects I am having. Still, I have no idea what I want to do with my life.
Some people already know what they wanna do .

Since I don't know George? I have no idea, but he seems to like math so he can try do smth related to that.

He can try for a year, if he don't like he can change ( yes that was what you said ), I know lots of people that went to law school, did the first year of the course and then got bored and changed for History, psychology etc.
Others did the full 4 years and then did another course because they realised that it was not what they wanted. It happens a lot.

Btw, I have lots of colleagues with more than 60 years, some of them allways wanted to do law school but never had the opportunity so they're doing it now and having really good grades, they rock

So George? take your time, it is an important decision but it's not like you're choosing your wife, well you can allways exchange that latter too but that's not very cool

Your father is such a sensible man.

Your life probably was easier, but my life was not. My life was horribly complicated and difficult at that time. I have no nostalgia for school days of any sort. Not college or law school. Age has it's drawbacks physically, but mentally it's a pretty good place -- unless you are like my neighbor.

Just saw the edit. In my profession, I have worked with psychologists and psychiatrists quite a bit. I've used them as witnesses and also for background information. I've had to rely on them quite a bit, and also I've had to question their treatment of patients. I've got a good handle on what they do and the difference between them.

You can rest assured that psychiatrists in the U.S. have nothing in common with those on TV. Just as lawyers aren't similar either.

My father is NOT a sensible man. I wish. I love him, you know, but sensible is so not the right word for him.

My life was so easy. I had a great family (really back then, everything was perfect, not just my parents, but the rest of the family, no troubles, all in good terms), it isn't half as easy right now. I had great friends; ok I still got that part. I was a bright student, top of the class; I am not even close to that right now. I didn't have to make big decisions on a daily basis, let alone life changing one on a monthly or so basis - I do now!

I guess I was lucky. My sister, for instance, not as lucky... I realize that!

You've just reminded me of some pretty embarrassing moments with that last sentence.

Yeah, you make some very valid points. One of the reasons I like the American system is that you can take your time before you decide what to major in, so if I chose to go there I could quite feasibly carry on with maths, physics, economics and even take up something else as well, before deciding what to concentrate fully on after two, maybe three semesters. Certainly America is on my radar, and my application is still a year away.

But I am not a bad person, neither will I treat my patients badly. It's what i like.

BTW, my Masters thesis? I have decided to do it in psychiatry with a teacher I loved. It's going to be about the correlation of humor disorders and sunlight/seasons. Support me. It's what i love!
