I know its nice to know as a parent but just saying nothing normally happens .And most of the times we skip school are during the exams period where are parents know and actually ask us to do it .I would hate it if the school would call us every day to enquire if I was at home or not during those times .

Of course as a parent ,its a different point of view

It's completely different when your parent has given you permission to skip school.

It's crucial in some places, but always dangerous when there's lots of cars around. Amsterdam is the ideal place to cycle as its geared up to help cyclists more than drivers.

And thanks.

I understand, but I think that's over-parenting.

I've certainly skipped classes in the past but obviously it's caught up with me and my parents have found out, but I sort of feel they don't have a right to know about it. Obviously if it becomes a regular problem, then that wouldn't be possible. It's just that it's nice to be cut some slack, occasionally. I think part of growing up is becoming independent from parents, and if they know about your every move, it's not truly a achievable.

Sometimes parents know and say nothing.

I understand about the need to be independent. But, I think most parents have good judgment. Obviously, if you have a child who skips class occasionally, you might turn a blind eye. But sometimes there are children who are going down the wrong path as teen-agers and part of that is skipping school. Maybe that's even one of the earliest indicators. So, a parent has to be aware.

Also when I was a child, the worst thing I could do was drink a beer or something like that. Now kids in school can get any kind of drug they want. I think as a parent, you don't want to be trusting and lenient with your child only to find that he's overdosed on heroin. I know that's an extreme example, but it happens. I guess since I've worked in the juvenile court system, I've seen decent parents come in with their kids to court bewildered by what's gone wrong.
