The northeast and California NJ is a weird state, but in presidential elections we usually go Democrat even though we have a Republican governor (WHO I CANNOT STAND). The thing with NJ is that we are quite liberal on social issues, but there are a lot of wealthy people who as far as tax issues, etc side with Republicans. NJ people don't vote Republican because of religious or ethical type issues, it would be mainly tax-related. So they tend to vote Republican for local offices but Democrat for larger offices. Both of our senators are Democrats, but Republican governor.

Our state will def be Obama though.

The northeast never gets tornadoes except for these last few years a lot more warnings Maybe 2012 is the end of the world But, the ones we get are usually very weak at least

Climate warming has affected tornados everywhere in the U.S. Salt Lake City had one about 10 years ago which knocked evryone for a loop. But, the big ones -- the F5s are still on the plains.

There is something about the dreadful beauty of these storms that captured the imagination. And the weather that builds up to a big tornado has to be experienced to be appreciated. I remember the sky going greenish and absolutely still -- even the birds go quiet.

It's the night time when it's scary.

It's no wonder that people spend months every year chasing storms and trying to get the perfect shot.

There are so many great shots of tornados on the internet. That spiral is so lovely and so frightening.

Also I think people are fascinated by the strange things that happen in a tornado. A house is destroyed, but the baby inside is found safe deposited in a tree. Steel beams twisted, a pair of men's shoes on the sidewalk while the man wearing them was swept away. So many strange stories.

I love these big events of nature -- the earthquakes, the volcano eruptions -- all of it. Naturally, I wish that no human life is impacted, but that is impossible

We have the idea that we can prevent all of this or protect ourselves from, but we have no defense against a massive event.

Cellars are a good defense even against an F5 tornado though. Unfortunately, lots of housing doesn't come with a storm cellar.

I don't think mother nature has feelings.

I always am confused when something is labeled "a killer storm" It was just a storm and some people died in the storm. The storm has no mens rea -- no animus and also no mercy.
