To Marty's credit, win or loose he finished the match. There is nothing worse then when a player on the biggest stages just throws in the the towel. The true top players you'd pretty much have to carry out on a stretcher for them to quit in the middle of grand slam matches.

very sorry to hear that.

Terrible news this. I hope he is OK. I can only hope it isn't anything to do with heart and general well being.

Horrible for Federer too. He needed the match practice. Not sure how he beats Berdych without it now.

I hope it's nothing serious with Fish. I just hope it's just not one of those cases where he came back too early as we're not talking about knees here - it's his life that's in danger. Let's hope he's alright. No one deserves to suffer from such a condition.

yep, 34th consecutive lucky GS quarter final

he would have probably won more cash from the lottery had he played, instead of wasting precious time of the fans...

yeah, unbelievable. half of the posters are hissing about the easy draw, the other half jizzing because of the qf streak and whatnot.

Well done, Roger .
We will have to wait and see. The news will eventually come out. Quite possible just fatigue after a taxing summer. Let's not jump to the worst conclusions just yet.

Goody, now we have something to talk about instead of A-dick's retirement. And maybe Mardy will have time now to get a shave, stop looking like a slob.

Fed-haters and Djoko-tards need to shut up. This is going to hurt Federer more than it is going to benefit him.

Get well soon, Mardy. Hope it is not serious

Simon has a shoulder injury and he said he was completely burnt after the match against Fish, he said he made more efforts than ever in this tournament because of his impossibility to really hit the ball

Apart from blablabla, looking forward to knowing Mardy's problem, he's a nice player to watch and considering his age, this is painful not to be able to play this match on Ashe.

And the legendary OP from another thread

I believe that Federer will fall in 2010. Down the rankings. I think the game iscatching up to him, he is now vulnerable to players like Benneteau and Verdasco. Meanwhile Del Potro is now a force, Djokovic is coming back strongly and we all Nadal will vamos back next year after he is properly rested. I hate it but Murray will also be a factor. Plus players like Davydenko are suddenly playing better than before. Plus they might be a breakout player next year that we don't know yet.

Federer himslef. His game has gone down a bit, just enough for the younger generation to catapult over him. Federer has enough game to stay competitive in masters. He will focus on the Slams. He will go deep in a few. But I am confiendt he will fail to win one next year.

All this equals Federer falling down to 5 or 6 in the rankings at the conslusion of 2010. and then the question is, will he be ready to play as the 5 or 6 player for 2011.
Spot - on. Federer will fall.
