Re: Mardy Fish Withdraws From US Open
Too bad I was looking foward to this match after the high quality game in Cinnci. Hope Mardy is allright.

Re: Mardy Fish Withdraws From US Open
terrible for federer
he will have to play the match against berdych with no match rhythm
apparently that´s the only reason Federer beat Djokovic in RG last year

Get healthy soon, Mardy
Just for the record: Fed's horror draw continues.

Re: Mardy Fish Withdraws From US Open
The only conclusion after watching Gimelstob on CBS (who seemed to know what was going on) is that this retirement is kind of bogus. He was a mess against Simon and had zero chance against Federer so he just decided to say 'fuck it' because he wouldn't handle it.

Re: Mardy Fish Withdraws From US Open
Gimselstob was an idiot. He had no idea what was going on. Fish couldn't slow his heart rate down after the Simon match and it was at dangerously high levels for too long. So under doctor's orders he withdrew. Gimelstob made a fool of himself telling Fish to "suck it up" and rish his life to play in that match.

It pretty much did seem that way and Gimlstob is probably in position to know better then anyone since they are good buddies.

Re: Mardy Fish Withdraws From US Open
I just think... once a person has any type of heart surgery at Mardy's age, it's just easy to get nervous--for Mardy as well as his doctors?
Mardy really hasn't been back that long has he? So maybe he's just learning how to deal with this.
I read (or heard) during Wimby.. I think or some tournament after his surgery, Mardy was checking his heart rate... non stop or something like that?
I just think... when things go wrong with your heart... it's not like having a sore shoulder or something like that.
He might be afraid... but.. maybe he just hasn't had enough time to learn how to deal with his condition and play tennis.

I think you're probably right about that. He's a bit freaked out.

I'm always amazed at Shaun White. He had some sort of.. heart defect when he was a baby... and had major heart surgery?
When I was a kid, I remember one my neighbors dying from the same thing Shaun White has. I just can't remember what it's called right now.
But Shaun White isn't fazed in the least... I guess he never remembers having any problems.
Mardy though.. considering his surgery was just last year... or not that long ago relatively speaking, I would think he's very sensitive to how he feels...
I think it's hard for somebody to like Justin to relate to that fear...
Maybe Mardy came back too soon?
