I'd love to see Nadal not play and fall down the rankings but I also think that's the better decision. Why come back in the latter part of the year instead of giving yourself proper rest (even have surgery) and then play AO. I just think that if he wants to stay for another 2-3 years, he needs to take an extended break.

Stop playing after Wimby would be the best solution for him.

He can play crazy until his knee is completely broke and retire. Aiming for longevity may not be an option.

Taking the rest of the year off and coming back in Australia doesn't seem like such a good solution to me because after not playing for half a year he wouldn't be too competitive.
I hope he comes back as soon as possible.

This person http://twitter.com/genny_ss translated some of his quotes from Spanish.

Quote:
"What I want is to lengthen my career as much as possible"

"Currently, I'm not practicing on court, but I try to keep my fitness at the gym and with physiotherapy"

"I want to be fit, so that when I return on tour it is not difficult for me to pick up the pace"

"I want to be able to play at the OG in Rio"

Even if he comes back for the indoor season, he won´t be competitive there, and it´s a risk to his health. If he is fit in January, he still has Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Auckland etc. to use as preparation for the AO. It´s not perfect, but then again his situation is far from perfect anyway. But getting healthy should be his top priority.

the other news I got from the Google translation from this article is that it's the same injury which made him withdraw from Miami and has bothered him since then.

Overall, he still thinks his tendons are better than several years ago, when he didn't have the PRP treatment

I think if he comes back for Paris and WTF and just uses them as practice events, then has the off season, THEN the AO lead-in, by the time AO rolls around, he should be good to go.

But of course, getting 100% healthy is most important. Davis Cup and the Asian swing are not important.

If Toni and Rafa are smart they will choose to take the long view and only return after a full recovery. Short term goals like rankings and slams are no where near as important as insuring a full career. Taking a break is not easy but the loss of his career would devastate Nadal. Catch some big ones, lower that handicap and enjoy your family Rafa. Tennis will still be there when you are ready.

Why are everybody giving such important to Rio2016? Why is Nadal even thinking about that when he wasn´t able to participate in this year´s Olympics?

Shouldn´t he be thinking about returning and trying to win slams than to be able to play some Olympics? :s

Shows you how much the Olympic experience means to him.

Also to set a goal to still be playing competitively in 4 years time.

He wants to keep his sponsors happy may be that is why he is thinking of OG and they are after four years. THat is long long time. I hope he has knees to walk by then.

I hope he comes back as soon as possible.
He has Doha to use as preparation plus the muggy first rounds at the AO - the slam where class counts the most. The surface suits him and I very much doubt he'll lose there. If he can find a rhythm in the tournament, he's always a threat in BO5 if he can run his arse off as usual. Plus he'll have to learn to deal with extended breaks between tournaments as it seems he needs that to continue playing at the highest level.
