Nadal took out Federer at the AO this year in the SF doing a big favor to Nole who played a subpar tournament. Federer is more likely to reach slam finals now that Nadal is out due to the matchup. I don't see Federer losing to Murray as often as he would to Nadal in the SF of slams. Roger in slam finals is way harder to beat than in the SF.

Topclownmugtor is the reason why the Aussie government should repeal that law allowing Internet acess in their mental institutions.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned...

There are two things I'd like to know about Nadal's golf. 1) How is his golf etiquette? 2) When he plays right handed does he pick his ass left handed?

don't be delusional John, he's not going to NEVER try to play again. it's not like he lost the Rosol match purely because of injury anyway, ROsol played great. he'll be back, it's like no one around here is patient at all. it was already known that he might miss a good portion of the season. and why should he not be extra careful? it's not as though he plays extraordinarily great usually during the fall/winter season anyway. he'll be back, everyone arounds here gets so excited over nothing. a player like Rafael Nadal brought up the way he is would never give up his career without at least trying again, makes no sense. because he played one bad match and has been out for a while? illogical

he'll be back. probably WTF but hopefully sooner

Wimby: First 2 sets a thorough beating, then it reduced into a tight, choking error-fest from both.
USO: Probably the biggest space in level all year, No2e just disassembling almost a comically frustrated Nadal for 2 and a half sets before encountering shoulder issues etc., even then it took a monumental effort from Nadal to get that 3rd set, so much so that he got fed a breadstick from No2e lobbing 90 mph 1st serves in the following sets.

The scorelines don't perhaps indicate hammerings but the actual matches did.
what does clay season 2012 indicate about Nadal's adjustments into being able to manhandle DJokovic though? can't pick and choose like thattt

Looks like time for him to play super short and condensed seasons like the William sisters.

In some ways not a bad idea. But unlike the Williams he cant keep the ranking on a very short schedule. It will be a factor due to better competition that if he's not a top 4 seed he will get knocked earlier in torments. I just don't see him sticking around if he's not in the top 4 or top 10 at least.

Miami/Rome: Is every straight set loss a hammering?! There was a break in each set - Nadal had his opportunities too. Rome was a closer match than Madrid. In no way am I saying they were equal players - Djokovic was better both times but that doesn't equal it being a hammering. He wasn't blown off the court 6-2, 6-2.
Wimby: I said that was the most one-sided - Nadal totally disappeared in the match - don't know if it was nerves, foot, Novak - everything - but that's closest to a hammering.
US Open: Novak had to work VERY hard to win that match. Nadal served atrociously most of the match yet and struggled to hold serve - but also broke Novak a number of times. The level in the third set was insane. In the 4th set Nadal was tired and dead so it didn't matter what Novak was serving. A match in which the winner himself looks dead cannot be a hammering.

To me losses prior to 2011 e.g. Cincinnati, to Novak, were more hammerings than any of the losses last year. They were psychologically tough blows but people underestimate how hard it was for Novak too - he can't just waltz on court and beat Nadal.
I guess you didn't read the last sentence: "The scorelines don't perhaps indicate hammerings but the actual matches did."

Extremely physical, relatively clear beatings except Miami is a more accurate description.

I never mentioned anything about 2012, that's a completely different matter.

I am sure he can just play:

Week 01 Doha ($)
Week 03 Australian Open (GS)
Week 04 Australian Open (GS)
Week 09 Dubai ($)
Week 10 Indian Wells (2 weeks easier on body)
Week 11 Indian Wells (2 weeks easier on body)
Week 12 Miami (2 weeks easier on body)
Week 13 Miami (2 weeks easier on body)
Week 16 Monte Carlo (Clay)
Week 17 Barcelona (Clay)
Week 19 Madrid
Week 20 Roma (Clay)
Week 22 Roland Garros (GS/Clay)
Week 23 Roland Garros (GS/Clay)
Week 26 Wimbledon (GS)
Week 27 Wimbledon (GS)
Week 32 Montreal
Week 33 Cincinnati
Week 35 U.S. Open (GS)
Week 36 U.S. Open (GS)
Week 41 Shanghai
Week 43 Valencia
Week 44 Paris
Week 45 WTF

That's only 18 Tournaments for the year, 17 not counting WTF.

If he goes even more condensed he can drop Madrid, Cincinnati, Shanghai, Valencia, and Paris. Playing just 14 tournaments will probably give him at least 5,000 points if he wins all Clay tournaments he plays and reach QF or SF is other tournaments.

Only??!! I know other guys may play more tournaments but Roger, for example, plays 17 or 18 tournaments each year. That is the norm for him not a reduced schedule.

Basically you're saying he should play all the slams + all the mandatory masters 1000 + MC + a couple of 500 + a 250, that sounds like a pretty normal schedule to me.

I have the feeling that he won't play the entire year anymore. He can now better wait and fully recover. The slams he missed already. The only important tournament this year are the WTF, but Nadal never played well there. So it is better to take rest and recover. But it will lead to a drop to the 5th place in the ATP rankings.
I hope he will return at the smaller tournaments before the AO. He can try to get into shape there and than return fully recovered at the Australian Open 2013.

No it probably won't. For ferrer to surpass nadal he would have to reach the semis or better at the US Open and the reamining masters 1000 plus win a few smaller torunaments and win a couple of matches in the WTF. It probably won't happen.

If nadal doesn't play for the rest of the year or only plays the WTF he will probably be in the 4th place in the rankings by the end of the year.
