How is Tomic ranked 43rd? Where is the upcoming talent?
Question is, how? He has surely got to be the most overrated youngster there has ever been. If he makes it inside the top 20 the other players should be asking serious questions of each other. His backhand is a joke, his shot selection is non-existant and for a man of his height he possesses absolutely no weapons whatsoever.
Even when you have a look at the other youngsters, how is Raonic at 16 in the world? He's barely done a thing since the clay court season began.
There's a serious lack of talent coming through. People can blame it on the slowing of the courts (believe there's 23 30+ year olds in the top 100 now), but who is there to get excited about?

Re: How is Tomic ranked 43rd? Where is the upcoming talent?
Sombrerero loco, Tomic this year has reached the semi-finals in Brisbane (in week one), the fourth round in the Aussie Open (week 3), a quarter final in Delray Beach (week 9), a quarter final in Munich (week 18) and the third round in Cincinnati (week 33).
In EIGHTEEEN other tournaments he has failed to get past round two.
If you think incessantly hit sliced backhands to Roddick is a smart play, I'm amazed. Tomic is meant to be part of the future, yet you put him on a grandstand court against old man Roddick in an evening session and he gets beat 3, 4, 0 whilst creating no break point chances.
Pathetic.
That sort of form takes you to 43 in the world? Crazy.

Really makes you question the depth in men's tennis.

Clay and Grass is the most important part of his season
He is predominantly a hard court player. He was ranked outside the top 20 after the Olympics. Two QF in MS tournaments got him to the top 16. He is currently holding two 250 titles, and has 500 finals. And you are saying that he does not deserve to be in the top 20 because of his lack of results.
What more do you want? Everyone in the top 20 should be a GS semifinalist and MS finalist?

well this points are enough to make you 43 in the world
i mean some guys from above dont have more impressive results than him
what count its the points you earn. if he is 43rd in the world, its because there are only 42 guys who earned more points in the lasts 12 months

This thread makes no sense at all. Because a well-ranked player is bad in your opinion, you conclude that all of tennis is in a poor state? Have you considered the much simpler explanation of this conundrum: that your judgement of this player's quality is off?

ATP is gonna become like WTA once the last of the current big 4 retires.
Then we stop watching..

Re: How is Tomic ranked 43rd? Where is the upcoming talent?
Didn´t read much of posts so just wrote my opinion - Tomic is super overrated, i think he is talented yes, but he really is doing nothing to improove, i think he was better player last year, don´t remember his ranking but i wouldn´t be surprised if he ends up 2012 wit worse ranking than 2011, level wise he was at least in Wimby QF in 2011, this year since beginning - Brisbane, AO he really is nobody, not someone to be scared off. His BH slice is boring and if this is what he thinks will give him succes he is wrong.
Worst thing on him he looks like he has won 10 slams - very bad attitude + his serve is joke for guy of his size, he has the same size like Milos or Tomas- o.k. Milos is freak one of best serves out there, but even Berdych is by far bigger server. Even Cilic and Hanescu from those tall guys are better servers than he is.
About RAonic - yes he is overrated too, but he at least can backup his results and hype about him. He has major weapons, while Tomic doesn´t.
Actually he already improoved fro last season, remember 2011 his start and 2012 this start - the same San Jose, Memphis - but 2011 3-setter tie-breaks and close matches, this year he won mostly in straight sets, without needing so many tie-breaks. BTW clay and grass aren´t his surfaces, but 2x QF at summer HC Masters not bad, now if he will beat Blake and loose to Murray in R4 in slam - not bad either.

No one.
Djokovic, Murray and Delpo are lucky they will still be playing and winning slams in the next 5+ years when the most talented youngsters they will have to face are Tomic, Harrison, Raonic.
