Default After Thailand - St Anton!

Oh man I'd love to go to this!

Quote:

Kiwi is playing an exo in St Anton (big Austrian ski resort) in 5 weeks' time, along with Rainer. I went to this last year to see Rainer play and it was great fun (Sjeng Schalken, Sargis Sargsian, Jürgen Melzer and Stefan Koubek also played then). There was a seniors match with Mansour Bahrami as well, which was fun too.

Successful dress rehearsal: Nicolas Kiefer is fit again

Nicolas Kiefer’s wrist injury has abated, the German will be able to start at the tele.ring Tennis Trophy in St. Anton am Arlberg as was planned. Last weekend he played his first two games.

In the round of last sixteen at the US Open Nicolas Kiefer had played his last match so far against Tim Henman. Then he had to retire in the fifth set due to a wrist injury.

Victory at Comeback
80 days after giving up „Kiwi“ played a show match in Thai Pattaya against local favourite Paradorn Srichaphan and won against the current number 27 in the ATP entry list 7:6, 6:3. So the German proved to be ready for the tele.ring Tennis Trophy in St. Anton am Arlberg.

„The main thing was that I could use my hand“
Though Kiefer lost the second match on this Thailand tour in Phuket, the result was just secondarily for the 27-year-old. „I had absolutely no problems with my wrist. I could use my hand and even one day after the match I didn’t feel pain“ said the happy German.

Default Re: After Thailand - St Anton!

I've also posted the schedule in the exhibition tournaments thread now...

damn I believe very much that the other group would have been better for Kiwi... if Haas and Kiefer changed their groups, it would be better for Kiwi because both, Schalken and Melzer, looks like if they suit Kiwi perfectly and he never had many troubles beating them, and so far, he is a 7-0 matches and 15-2 sets against them
Another note is that Kiwi has beaten Melzer an additional time not listed in the ATP databases, two years ago in St. Anton, 6-2 6-4, rather easily in just above one hour.

Against Koubek and Berdych there are no meetings yet, so don't have any references to the past. Especially the 0-0 H2H with Koubek is very surprising... these two guys are for very long time on the tour, but never played an official match against each other!

Another note not concerning Kiefer vs Koubek is that Koubek has beaten Kiwi two years ago in the final, 3-6 5-7. Koubek has so won the event already two times, also beating Roger Federer 6-4 6-1 in 2002.

Koubek is dangerous there, in a group with just three people, two opponents, you should better win both of your matches to have a chance for the final...

Default Re: After Thailand - St Anton!

Here is the summary of the comments from the website during the match...

Quote:

If I get it right, one set against Koubek would be enough to qualify tomorrow.
Don't know what would happen if everybody would be tied at 1-1 matches and 2-2 sets, maybe they would have to count the games then

But let's hope that it doesn't even get so far and that Kiwi makes the final with a clear 2-0 match record in Round Robin. Would be great!

Okay, I've read it on the page that Kiwi is the BIG favourite to make the finals. On the website they said that he could even lose 0-2 sets to Koubek, the only requirement that he must hit would be at least winning 7 games.

So according to what they write, Kiwi could even afford a 4-6 3-6 loss (or any better) to Koubek and still make the finals.

I think Kiefer could afford a loss with 3 games difference, cause then he and Berdych would be +1 in games

for example:

Kiefer - Koubek 5-7 6-7

Kiefer 1-1 2-2 23-22
Berdych 1-1 2-2 20-19
Koubek 1-1 2-2 21-23

Kiwi's in the final tomorrow, he beat Koubek 6-4 6-3
I got to see the second set of this. Kiwi looked in fine form, no problems with his wrist. He was looking a bit peeved during the changeovers. There was music being played, maybe he didn't like the DJ's choices . Was funny to see, actually. At one stage I thought he was going to ask the umpire to do something about it
He looked a bit narky at the end as well, when he got mobbed by a bunch of kids straight after sitting down. But when he was interviewed on the tv he was fine, said he was enjoying himself and that he'd like to be back again next year.

Tomorrow he's up against Schalken for the car!
