Nadal I think definitely although Murray has improved in this department. Just think of your memory the insanely high # of times you can recall Nadal flinging his forehand past someone at the net. hell even the backhand. he's famous for giving people so much trouble who approach the net, definitely him.

Hewitt was perhaps slightly better with passes that had less preparation time, however, overall Nadal is superior in my opinion. Hewitt also had (and still has actually) the better lob, but Nadal doesn't even have to use it much because his regular passes are usually a better option.

The spin Nadal generates enables him to get the ball very low (to set up the second passing shot), or hit sick angles. Even if Nadal hits a forehand right in the volleyer's volley zone, the extreme topspin means that straight forward volleys can be difficult. Nadal

By far Nadal. Djokovic and Murray have no comparison. For Nadal a passing shot is almost no different to a routine rally shot. There is no change in technique whether he's hitting a passing shot or not. His incredible upper body strength allows him to stretch to the full limit yet still hit with tremendous power.

Nadal, and i also don't think it's close. I really can't even count how many times i thought a rally was over, just to shake my head a couple seconds later, when he came up with an absolutely ridiculous pass, from the stands. It's just out of this world stuff, really. Prime Hewitt couldn't make those shots from that far consistently like Nadal, though he was really amazing too. Definitely better at it than current Djokovic and Murray. Honorable mention Roger, he was great as well in his prime, those backhand passes... But yeah, it's Nadal, and then everybody else.

Since when? The only big weakness in his defense are the passing shots.
Nadal is obvious answer, Hewitt was awesome too some years ago

Nadal should be the only option.

Murray is not even THAT close. Also, Roger could be close if he kept his level of passing shots he had during his peak years. He's been very mediocre in this department, for years now.

I don't like Nadal but have to say it's him. Regarding Novak, I always thought his passing shots are the worst of the four and I say this as a fan.

Nadal. Best passing shots in the history of the game. Half the people picking him hate his guts - that says it all.

Honourable mentions to Hewitt, Borg, Connors, Rosewall, Agassi, Laver. Also peak Federer, but as MachineGun says, that part of his game has really declined.

When I saw your name as most recent post, I was keen to see your opinion remembering that you know the history of the game very well. Nadal GOAT passing shots.

Agreed. Nadal's passing shots are phenomenal. Federer's BH passing shot is almost non-existent, he tends to try and aim it at their feet, drawing an error on the next volley or setting up an easy forehand pass.

Right now Federer's BH pass is poor, yes, but in his prime it was different. That effortless flick BH he possessed back then was incredible and is classic Federer just like his inside-out forehand.

The best passer ever though is probably Nadal. Murray's and Nole's BH pass is very good as well, and Hewitt might have the greatest topspin lob ever.

In seriousness, Nadal is the best of the top 4. Peak Federer next, then Muzza, then Djokovic.
Djokovic's passes are fairly poor, which is why he goes for the lob far too often.

Peak Fed's flick BH pass is insane though.

He can still hit it, but I haven't seen many this year.

Peak Fed could go toe to toe with anybody. Currently, his passing shots are kindly said awful. Not even in top 20. In today's game when every mug hitting winners from everything what isn't perfect approaching shot guys with awful volleys like Nole and Delpo winning majority net points against Fed, most of the time on pretty easy passing shot though
