GOAT is just being humble as a sign of divine Budha-like holiness.
we all know federer is the greatest both in regards to tennis and human life. in fact, if you don't like federer you simply don't like tennis. furthermore, you also don't like people.

And people call Roger arrogant...
He's always been respectful of other tennis players.

Once upon a time there was a myth about strong and weak eras. On this glorious day the clownery was eventually unmasked: 30 y.o. past-prime daddy Fed became #1 once again in the supposed strong "Spartan" era with his rivals at their peak.
And they all lived happily ever after.
Long live King Federer!
17 Grand Slam titles
7 Wimbledon titles
302 weeks at #1

Re: Roger - I'm not greatest player
remember Roger saying something similar before in regards to Borg. I mean would Borg have quit tennis at 26 and not even played AO every season if he had a slam record to chase? There was nothing to chase for him.
Roger is a smart man. He knows many past champions could have collected more slams if they really went in for it. At the same time it was players like Borg that paved the way for the modern gloryhunting/celebrity worship you see in modern tennis.
Borg made like 2 million in his career (don't remember exactly). Today Fed get that for making fake videos with his sponsors or playing lame exhibitions....in like one season.

Yeah, it's pretty safe to say the WTA has been a mess the last few years. Serena's come back has been really the only interesting part and saved the tour a bit. But at 31, that show can only last so long. Hopefully some true champions emerge again soon.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Both McEnroe and Agassi said in the World Team Tennis match this July that tennis right now at the top, men’s tennis is the toughest ever. Do you think you four guys are the toughest maybe in history in terms of competing against each other and winning events?
ROGER FEDERER: I’d say no, but I don’t know. Just because you look back maybe 15 years, then you have Sampras, Edberg, Becker, and Agassi, I don’t know who else. Those guys weren’t good or what? Do you know what I mean?
You look back, further back, 20 years, and you have the Connors and the Lendls. Those weren’t good either? I mean, I don’t know. So for me I think that’s respectful. It’s just different times and definitely more athletic, there’s no doubt about that. But then again we don’t play doubles. We don’t play mixed. Maybe we play less matches today because it’s more taxing, but we do play less best‑of‑five set tennis than they used to play. You can’t compare really.
but we have somewhat of a golden era right now. I feel that truly. It’s nice to see Andy making his move at the Olympics, nice to see Novak having an absolutely ridiculous year last year, and then Rafa and myself still being around. It’s definitely good times. Past that you still have great champions as well. It’s very interesting at the top right now, and the depth I think has never been greater than right now. There’s no doubt about that.
But then best ever? The four of us? That’s a really difficult call.

FAIR AND ACCURATE STATEMENT BY ROGER! Obviously, he knows tennis history and is the smartest player on tour. The people saying today's top 4 are the best ever are ass kissers trying to gain favor with the players. Today's top 4 are certainly among the greatest of all-time, but not the greatest ever.

But according Djokovic's father, his son is "the best of all time", no?
