Default The aptly named *David in the US Open Thread*

I don't think there was a US Open post, so let's open one

David has a hell of a good draw, so VAMOS, make the most of it!

Sure, he'll have to play Djokovic if he gets to the semis... But it was either that or Federer, so let's not complain! He may have taken a severe beating in his latest encounters with Djoko on hard courts, but at least, his H2H against him has a few victories... (unlike the 0-13 record against Roger )
Nole's not been playing extremely well lately... Then again, neither has Ferru, but if he's back to his pre-Olympics shape, he could stand a chance.

Seeing him in semis would be cool anyway, and it seems a very reasonable expectation.
Before the semis, at first glance, the only guys who could be a problem are Hewitt (if he happens to have a great day), possibly Gasquet (but I don't think so), and then either Tipsarevic or Isner.

Here's the draw:
http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/draws/ms/r1s3.html

And, did I forget to mention that the US Open website has FREE online streaming? That's so cool!

I'm not sure what to expect, that Wawrinka beating was pretty rough.

Hopefully he is okay, it's a very good draw!

Yeah, I know, I'm a bit apprehensive too... But really, I think David was still a little bit affected by the Olympics at that time. Either physically, or mentally, or both. He did not seem his usual self.

And also, Wawrinka is a good player and he was apparently in fantastic shape at Cincinnati. Kevin Anderson's no Wawrinka I think... and apart from Gasquet (who's very unpredictable but usually gives David no trouble), or maybe Hewitt if he's in great shape (but he's far from being as good as he used to be)... The only real threats before the semis should be either Tipsarevic or Isner.

Now, given the pics he's been posting on Twitter, David's had a great "vacation" (because he was practising, too!) in Mexico with his girlfriend, he doesn't seem to be depressed in the least. He should start the US Open in good conditions.

I thought David would be starting tomorrow, since the top half is playing today... But I can't find him on tomorrow's schedule. Djokovic is there, but no David Ferrer.
So I guess that means he'll be starting only on Wednesday?

David is playing tomorrow morning at 11am, on the Louis Armstrong court (that's cool, it's one of the big courts!)

I'm happy because that means I might be able to watch the match! That's about 5pm for me... Places with WiFi will still be open. I have a work meeting though, so let's hope we'll be finished at that time

I am also pretty happy about the OOP, both that he is playing on a big court which increases the tv chances and that he plays during a good time for Europeans to watch!!

I really want to see the "normal" Ferru again and I hope the home-factor won´t be a point for Anderson!

Vamos Ferru

Ferru won!

Did anyone see the match? I couldn't see it, there was absolutely no way I could find a place with public WiFi that would support streaming

Did he play well? The stats are not really great for his serve, but apparently he did serve very well when he needed to, and he won quite a great number of points on his 1st serve, too... So maybe the loss in accuracy is due to an effort to produce powerful serves.

I'm happy to see that he won the tie break, and apparently saved 3 set points by producing 3 great serves. Those are always good signs, it means he's strong mentally and confident enough.

OK, for the next match, I'll be at home! I hope it goes exactly the same way!

Glad that Ferru won today, he frightened me a little bit with that tie break... It took him 6 match points to finish off Sijsling!

I don't know yet if he's back to his best level. He seems way better than in the Olympics and in Cincinnati, but I'm still not completely reassured.

He told the Spanish press that he was quite tired from his season and was not playing as well as he had earlier in the year, because of that.
http://www.terra.es/deportes/tenis/n...da-1090306.htm
(BTW he also says he is ready to play the Davis Cup if the captain asks him to, in spite of being tired).

Well, his serve seems to be much better anyway, and it's still reassuring that he won both tie-breaks. I'd rather he had not had to play those tie-breaks, I think he should have been able to win more easily, but winning them and holding fast when he was threatened was a good sign that mentally, he's doing OK.

I'm still pretty confident that he can make the semi-final at least. He can take Hewitt, and hopefully Gasquet as well (though you never know what to expect with that one...). Then, if it's Tipsarevic, well, it seems he hasn't been playing too well either.

Let's hope that Ferru is not the only one to be tired after a very demanding season! ^^
