Default Endless Djokovic/Federer Debates (Their rivalry)

Just something I thought about :P

let's think about it this way:

Fed's Australian Open = Djoko's Wimbledon.
Fed's Roland Garros = Djoko's Roland Garros.
Fed's Wimbledon = Djoko's Australian Open.
Fed's US Open = Djoko's US Open.

2003 & 2008 - First GS for each player
Both players won their first GS, and in their 'best' tournament of the four.

2004 & 2011 - First year of absolute Dominance
Both won 3 Slams in those year, and were more dominant than any other player on the tour. Also, the only Slam they didn't win was their worst Slam - RG. I know Fed's done it in 2004 which is of course right the next year after 2003, and Novak had a two year break, but oh well...

2005 & 2012 - A little less successful than the previous year
Only two Slams for Roger: His best one, and his second best. Novak has already won his best slam this year, so he now needs to win the USO :P

-------------

I'm kidding of course, but this is just interesting

Umm... Apart from the EPIC 2005 AO SF loss (one of the ACTUAL "non-media hyped" greatest matches of all time) -- Federer's 2005 season was phenomenal:

ATP Tournaments Played: 15
ATP Record: 80-4 Tournament
Titles: 11 (Wimbledon, Qatar Open, ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, Dubai Tennis Championship, Pacific Life Open, NASDAQ-100 Open, Masters Series Hamburg, Gerry Weber Open, US Open, Western & Southern Financial Group Masters, Thailand Open)
Hardcourt Record: 53-2
Clay Record: 16-2
Grass Record: 12-0
Overall Record (including non-ATP events): 81-4
-------------------------

Djok's 2012 does not even come close thus far.

No, this is going to be Feds second 2005. He will win USO and another masters tittle and/or Masters Cup.

Federer lost 4 matches in 2005.

Neither he nor Djokovic are going to come close to this level in accomplishments and in performance levels.

Default Re: Federer - Djokovic similarities (Djokovic is having his 'Fed 2005' year)

In many ways, Federer's 2005 was his best year as far as overall play is concerned along with 2006. Federer's BH was better in 2006, but Federer's FH was more potent in 2005. Federer's 2005 and McEnroe's 1984 are really the closest anyone has come to being undefeated.

AO loss to Safin: Federer held match points and won more points than Safin in the match.

MC loss to Gasquet: Federer held match point and won more points than Gasquet in the match.

RG loss to Nadal: clear cut loss although Federer did lead 3-1 in the 4th set.

TMC lost to Nalbandian: Led two sets to none, and then came back to 6-5, 30-0 in the fifth set.

So, in his four defeats, he could have easily won three of them. He had some close victories as well, but his none of his opponents won more points than he did in a match that Federer won, nor did they hold match point against him. He did have close wins that could have gone either way against Ljubicic and Ferrero and there was that come from behind win against Nadal in Miami.

Default Re: Federer - Djokovic similarities (Djokovic is having his 'Fed 2005' year)

Fed was superb in 2005. He finally looked like he was prepared for an RG success but Nadal really shocked him big time with his clay game, while at Wimbledon he dropped only one set to Kiefer and beat Hewitt and Roddick in straight sets. The USO Agassi gave it absolutely everything he had and it was a stunning three sets of tennis but the old man had no more to give in the fourth.

Fed was superb in two of those defeats to Safin and Nalbandian and could have easily won either but both of his opponents were just scintillating and deserved their victory. Two wonderful matches. 2005 was high quality.

Default Re: Federer - Djokovic similarities (Djokovic is having his 'Fed 2005' year)

this thread is pretty silly and if anything OP (although your mostly just having fun) this makes you lose respect on this forum.

Federer had a phenominal season in 2005 and this season Djokovic already has multiple more losses than Federer did in his ENTIRE season of 05'. not to mention the contrasting TALENT and style of each player. really kind of dumb, as though you expect Djokovic to dominate the way in which Federer has

Except Djokovic is 1 year older than Fed 2005, has played more matches and is half a grinder.

Also, Federer lost 4 matches in 2005. Djokovic has lost 6 and counting, slowcourt season is over.

Djokovic has also won a grand total of 2 titles this year, Federer in 2005 had won 8 titles by now.

Guess we wait til the USO to see.

And I see many parallels in their careers, but Nole will do less. I think his career may be an echo of Fed's, the same patterns, but with slightly more mental toughness to accompany a LOT less talent.
