He's a minor, give him a break. In a few years we can judge.

Waiting for Djordje's ex-coach from his under 14 days to come out and cryptically explain this loss

Yea and no.

Usually big talents show promise very early on. From what I remember, del Potro won a challenger at 16, Novak, Nalbandian and some other top players won the third or fourth pro (futures) tournament they entered, Berdych was doing super fine at the challenger circuit at 17, Fed reachedd WS(250) QF just after 17th birthday etc. etc.

Djordje just turned 17 and yes, he has time, but that opening couple of futures from him were far from brilliant.

We'll see.

I'm sure he's really concerned about the opinion of some nobody on a forum.

He's a kid who's just starting out so it will take time before we know if he has a future in tennis. Give him a break.

Even high class mugs like Cilic were beating top 100 opponents and playing QFs of ATP tournaments at his age. Nobody expects he will be new Nole but if somebody thinks that he should be trashed to 26 years old player ranked at 1879 ( went down 377 places more from this week ) he has to be pretty big Djokovic's family hater

Even Dimitrov, Tomic, etc al showed promise at 17. I think it's still early for the youngest Djokovic but he needs to work and have the desire. Novak should taunt him to motivate him .

How many 16 year olds win futures these days, though?

You can't compare different generations. There's a reason for why there are very few teenagers around, and a lot of veterans.

Cilic was winning futures before he turned 17.

Berankis did that, I think. I don't have time to google now

Cilic and del Potro are still very young, they just seem to be around for ages. And yes, I get that "the game got very physical".

But I still believe you can show some talent very early on.

Djordje started slowly. Maybe he'll get much better.

Can never predict any players career when they're only 17. Most will not make it, so the likelihood of success for Djordje is just as slim as any other junior. Has yet to string two wins together on futures, and needs to get some momentum going soon to keep up with other players his age, like Nishioka.

If he's still losing matches like this and not getting anywhere in futures this time next year, then it could be time to worry.
