Default Does an Olympic gold medal in doubles have more value than a doubles GS title?

Considering the fact this event actually has the best players in the world giving a fuck?

Federer, Nadal and Djokovic pander to plutocrats and charge huge appearance fees. The "trickle down effect" means that tournaments like the Heineken Open now have to pay appearance money for racketeers that many of us have never heard of. It's close to extortion.

At the end of Federer's first round match at the Australian Open a fawning interviewer asked about his kids and if he had bought coach Stefan Edberg a birthday present - no, by the way, the privilege of knocking up with 'King Roger' was enough of a present apparently.

Nope, Players have to play with opponents from the country unlike GS, so you do not get the best teams here, and if you don't have any other good players from your country, you are kinda screwed

You are thinking of Nestor, of course.

But seriously, do you think Bryan/Bryan would have as many slams if Federer, Djokovic and Nadal entered doubles competition regularly? I don't. Federer/Mirnyi, for example, could have kept the brother's slam count to low single figures if they had maintained their partnership. But it is too exhausting to play Bo5 and doubles.

Yes.
Olympics is the greatest event in Sports (not necesarily in Tennis but still) so even the players who usually skip doubles want to win here.

Somewhat similar thread is already here.

Anyway, I don't want to dismiss doubles, but I have a feeling that any player would like to have a successful singles career, doubles slams only allow worse singles players to have glory at slams. But as you don't have too many Olympic Gold chances, top players also play OG doubles to get a better chance to win gold.

So, I'd say OG doubles has better quality than Slam doubles, but Slam doubles are more prestigious than OG doubles. So, I'd say they're on the same level, for different reasons. For a doubles specialist, I'd say Slam doubles matter more, for singles' slam winner without an OG singles gold, OG doubles gold matter more.

I think it boils down to the same question as singles gold vs singles GS title.
In tennis terms, a GS title has much more value.

Many top singles players participating gets (at the least) negated by the fact that they are so few regular doubles teams. To top that there a few absolutely ridiculous pairings. Paes and Vardhan. Tecau and Ungur.

Ask a Peruvian or Uruguayan if they would change that RG crown of Cuevas-Horna for a Gold Medal. I think the answer is absolutely yes

Of course.

Double slam have no value for top players.

Olympic gold has a good value.

even an olympics bronze is far more important than winning 5 double slam titles.

doubles have no importance for elite players apart from daviscup and olympics.

Fed/Mirnyi just played 3 tournaments together, which included no grandslam. So, we can't really tell about partnership against Bryans. If you see the stats you see that Nadal,Djokovic,Federer lost many times in doubles at prelims, at many tournaments.

Certainly. Mostly because they played with low-ranking countrymen who are their friends. I mean, Yves Allegro? Does that sound like an attempt of winning the tournament?

Mirnyi might not be the ideal partner for Fed, but he would certainly be a better one than Allegro. Neither of the top three would have any difficulty attracting a top-tier partner if they committed fo doubles for a while.
