Question Wrist injury help!

I guess GM is the right place for this (sorry if not!).

Anyone have tips on how to help ease wrist aches/pain? I play with two hands on both sides so I'm f**ked if I can't sort this My left wrist has given me issues the last two matches and I have another match tomorrow - help appreciated!

you play with a two handed forehand? now that is bizarre

odds are you will be much better off adopting a one handed just do that.....

I paid for 10+ coaching lessons 10 years ago to help me switch to a one handed forehand - it felt so weird I switched back. Too late now...

He meant the BF..

Now the solution - you play one handed FH and slice the BH till it gets better, those juncture injuries don't get away overnight, you'd need to give it some rest and put some gel on it.

I think in your case this would be appropriate -

Make sure your contact point is in front of your body and has the full support of your arm. One major cause of wrist injuries in this sport is having a contact point too far back so you don't have the full support of your body and forearm as your wrist takes the full brunt of the force.

I know it may sound weird, but it works for me and I have awful wrist tendinitis, switch to a heavier frame so you can slow down your swing speed.

I was out for about 9 months with a wrist injury, and when I came back I got a racquet that was nearly 40grams heavier so now my swing speed is a lot lower and my racquet does most of the work.

That's really useful info, thanks!

You don't say what your injury is, but if it's in any way repetitive-strain-related (maybe holding on to the racquet a bit too tightly?) I've found that putting the joint in water as hot as you can bear tends to help - it seems to loosen things up. Oh, and do you, for example, spend a lot of time on the computer and mousing? There could be contributory factors outside tennis.

BTW, my niece is a doctor, and doesn't think much of these ibuprofen gels and the like. I can't remember what her reasoning was.

yeah, they're no panacea for sure, but unfortunately for such ligament inflammations there isn't anything that really helps.

The ibuprofen gels solves the pain short term, but it seems it doesn't actually help heeling.

I'm struggling with a bad case of tennis elbow, coz the dude who strings my racquets (i suspect) forgot the tension i told him (24n23kg) and probably made it with my usual summer tension (26x25kg) and after 7-8 matches this pain grew little by little to the pint of me unable to shake hands with someone...

I'm trying pretty much everything on the market and unfortunately only resting is the way.

I'll last try somekind of herbal gel that some guys have said helps a bit more than the usual Deep Relief, Reparil or Voltaren, but i'm not too optimistic about it either.

Just use your mouth. You will have problems with your jaw but then your wrists have healed.

without knowing the exact location and type of injury you have, rest it until the pain/inflammation goes away. continuing to play might aggravate whatever injury you have and you risk it becoming a chronic condition. when the pain is gone and you start playing again, evaluate your strings, racquet, grip size, grip position, swing, etc. to see if you can find a set-up more forgiving to your wrist.
