Default What happened to the Grand Prix Toronto Tournament in the 80s?

Apparently, Canada used to have 2 Atp events back in the 80s. We had the Rogers Cup and then we had an atp 250 event in Toronto. This was back in the 80s and now we only have 1 event - the Rogers Cup. Well..I say we should bring it back. Canada needs more atp level events.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Canada has a big event, they have challengers and Futures events as it is.

If it doesn't exist then it's a financial issue, either defunct or another venue took over the licence.

It's difficult to justify another tournament in Canada given that tennis is becoming more international. It would be nice to have a Challenger tournament in Toronto, making up a mini Challenger circuit along with Granby and Vancouver leading up to the Canadian Open.

I find it a pity that Vancouver is the week before the Canadian Open; some players have to choose between Vancouver and Canadian Open qualifying.

USTA runs Vancouver so I doubt they care.

It's co-run with Tennis Canada actually.
