Yes, good point. There's no point in going to all this trouble to get him back (which may be in vain) if he won't behave coming back. I really like the guy, but even friends should only be given so many chances.

Re: Clay Death Permaban: Consider rescinding please.
Permaban is clearly too much for such a quality poster.
Sometimes CD can get a bit drunk from his brandy among others and can post some mean things, I have seen and been the target of some.
But the guy means well. Give him a few months ban and bring him back.

Re: Clay Death Permaban: Consider rescinding please.
To answer the question masterclass asked: I think infractions have some absurd duration (1 year or so) before expiring and becoming inactive. There are also infractions that never expire, if I am correct.
But even though this system could use some technical improvement, it comes down to the mods.
I agree with the majority of people here. Clay Death is an incredibly valuable poster. A forum icon even. He opened the door of his chat thread to everyone. It's one of the -- if not THE biggest chat thread on this forum, and everyone who had contact with those people and him know it's a warm and friendly environment.
On the other hand, he is also a tennis aficionado. But his need to pursue tennis discussions has backfired on him too many times.
Why is it so?
People browse this forum out of boredom. When they see such a persistent poster, they don't understand him. They find his need to grind discussions to the smallest details tedious. They don't understand that his need for passionate discussions is not necessarily aggressive in nature. Needless to say, some instantly see him as an enemy for praising the skills of a player they don't like, or a player that is in some way a threat to their favourite player.
It is the fault of such a toxic environment that conflicts arise. Casual posters would be briefly shocked by the obnoxiousness of the attackers, but they would quickly forget about it and move along (move away). But a persistent poster like Clay Death, who has put so much into this forum, has the need to hold his ground. Alas, that makes him an even more attractive target for malicious posters.
There are times at which I truly admired Clay Death's perseverance. There are few people who withstood such abuse, coming not only from other posters but also mods! Yet, he did his best to keep his cool and continue like nothing's happened.
Imagine if MTF were as big a part of your world as it is to Clay Death. Now imagine if you suffered such abuse. How long would you last without retaliating? How would your defensive mechanism look like?
I'm glad that masterclass and a few others have noticed the same thing I have. Clay Death was being provoked on a daily basis by people whose sole purpose on this forum seemed to be exactly that -- to provoke him. How can he be banned while these people are allowed to post ? Does that make sense in any system?
I have no doubt that Clay Death still has a place on this forum and that he'd be able to function in it. But only if the forum still needs people who contribute to it. Otherwise, MTF might as well call it a day.

I am pretty new here but one of first things I noticed here was CD. First I did not understand his expressions, manners and all that general stuff around but then I was getting to know this poster more and I can tell that he will be missed. Just his signature had to take days to make!
Set general free...

Re: Clay Death Permaban: Consider rescinding please.
if the grounds of popularity/contribution vs. vices are to be considered to bring him back, mods must also bring back posters like prima donna, its.like.that, GlennMirnyi and dylan24 (and to a lesser extent The Magician and Federers_Mate)
if memory serves me right, CD has been permabanned before and got his ban reduced to 6 months

Re: Clay Death Permaban: Consider rescinding please.
Rules are rules and I think they should be enforced.
But in this case I think masterclass' quest should be seriously considered.
Please, Mods.

Re: Clay Death Permaban: Consider rescinding please.
Clay Death is a good man. He even paid to support this site, I think permabans for the people who have donated to this forum is far too much. Sure, you should respect the rules but so equally should the mods respect the donation and his attempts to improve the site. He tries hard in general messages to make it more objective, you can't blame him for lashing out now and then when someone is so rude. The site is a lesser place without him.

+1. It's interesting how people from all parties support him. He may have been permabanned before and rules are rules BUT this is still not exactly real life and we surely we can afford some leniency on the subject.

Re: Clay Death Permaban: Consider rescinding please.
Wow, a lot of love for CD here. I don't share it. To me he was one of the biggest attention whores on the site and before you say anything, no, I'm not bitter. I just want to share my own perspective on this.
Was he a good man?
If he was, he didn't show it. Inventing insulting nicknames for people, always talking as if he owned the place... how quickly people forget. (Btw, I was no fan of Glenn either.)
Was CD a forum icon?
Maybe - which really says something about the quality of this forum.
I will be honest now. I always found CD to be an annoying poster. Anyone wondering why can just go back and check for example all the shit he pulled during the ACC 2011 and prior to it. The fact is, you don't come as close to winning the ACC as he did (lost the final by like 3 votes) if you are in fact a good poster. That just doesn't happen.
Now, CD seemed to calm down a bit in 2012. And he was never as unbearable as SdG. But saying stuff like "he contributed to this forum"? Honestly? In a couple of years I personally will remember him as someone who entered buckloads of threads with the sole purpose of making them about himself.
Now go ahead and throw shit at me if you want. I only wanted to share my viewpoint.
