My Romanian is indeed rather sophisticated and very sarcastic, my English sadly not so much

It's the most visible difference and the easiest way to discriminate so I think it comes from mental laziness more than anything else.

You mean the Americans don't usually book their tennis courts in advance? I get stressed out when I can't book my courts at least 3 days before I'm due to play.
Many of them didn't know they could. There were 18 tennis courts and they probably thought some of them would be free. Asians would never make that assumption. They were also very cheerful when kicked out while the Asians would frown and glare for having been out-reserved.

Does the government perpetuate this attitude of subservience?
Don't think they do it as any kind of policy but there are plenty of those in the government who are white worshipers.

"Mass of confused people" definitely describes Singapore as well. At least India has a rich history and cultural tradition; our history began with a British guy discovering the island.
Interesting. I am completely ignorant as to your history. Can you summarize in brief?

Huge generalization of course but the earliest thing I noticed when I first came here was how comfortable the Americans seemed in their own skin and in their environment. I don't know much about Europeans though so I cannot compare.

Don't think there is any need for a permaban. Ban people as many times as needed but keep the maximum limit to 6 months or so.

I prefer that parents not comment on the quality of work at all( or keep it very limited) and simply encourage the interest in a particular activity. If interest is sustained, there will eventually be efforts to improve. I say this because interest in a particular activity can randomly emerge at a later stage and telling kids they suck at something early on can later affect their ability to develop a newly formed interest.

Btw, the two Polish girls I knew in grad school were quiet, shy, somewhat nerdy bespectacled girls. Needless to say, after I joined MTF you provided a counter perspective.

poles who come to usa or canada are poor and originate from some shithole places, and have huge inferiority complex

all of the above doesn't refer to polish jews ofc. (well, even if they come from shithole places, they get education and make career )

you probably have told me that the Poles who come to Holland are also trashy. Yes they get into a van with 1250150 people, shitfaced from alcohol but I always enjoy meeting some Poles. They know to have a good time.

No construction or building repairs in Norway wouldn't be done without Poles. Like any immigrant group some are absolute shitheads and others fine, but that's no different to anywhere else where there are plenty of dickhead locals.

Sounds exactly like what I would do - never assume the courts are free and get all disgruntled when I'm kicked out.

This kind of attitude might inform policies and influence the general perception of the public.

By the way, I read this article at work this morning: http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/143651.html

Very interesting read; I learned things about the Indian culture that I wasn't previously aware of. Do you know the novel by Maitreyi Devi?

Quote:
Interesting. I am completely ignorant as to your history. Can you summarize in brief?
Basically, this British guy called Sir Stamford Raffles discovered the island now known as Singapore in 1819. We were colonised until 1963 when we merged with what was then Malaya as a condition for independence from the Brits, then separated/were kicked out of the union in 1965 due to a host of conflicts with the Malayan leaders. We've been independent ever since. Ours is probably the least eventful independence story in Asia; no armed struggle, no deep-seated hatred for the Brits, and the only earth-shattering thing that happened in the process was Lee Kuan Yew crying when we were expelled from Malaysia.
