Re: Wimbledon Final 2012: Federer def. Murray 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4
SFs Novak Djokovic 14/22 64%
F Andy Murray 53/68 78%
22 net approaches against djokovic and then 68 against murray. astonishing.

Re: Wimbledon Final 2012: Federer def. Murray 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4
The only reason Federer was coming to the net so often was that Murray totally shat his pants and couldn't play a clutch pass to save his life.
Any other top 100 player going for broke would have made Federer think twice.
Those stats pretty much confirm it.

It is not like Djokovic posed unsolvable problems to Federer either

In normal circumstances, Djokovic - Federer is a pretty balanced matchup.
It's funny that Federer with mono achieves same result as healthy Federer @ AO.
We'll have to see if healthy Novak will lose in 4 against a healthy Federer at Wimbledon, next year or sometime in the future.

Re: Wimbledon Final 2012: Federer def. Murray 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4
Unquestionably one of the greatest victories of Federer's career. After more than 2 years of just coming up short in the biggest matches, after having been overtaken in the rankings by players 5 years younger than him, after being written off even by many of his own fans as a serious threat to win another slam, let alone regain the top ranking, he beats 2 of the 3 best players of the succeeding generation in consecutive matches to win his 17th slam and get back to No. 1, with a performance of outstanding quality. It doesn't get any better than this for Fed fans.
It was particularly pleasing that he suddenly remembered how to volley. Winning 78% of net points against the 2nd-best passer in the game is extraordinary. It was also noticeable how Murray had far more unreturned serves yet Federer still managed to have more success winning points on return - basically because when he did get the return in, he did a great job seizing the initiative in the rallies, particularly on Muzza's 2nd serve.
As for Murray, for the first time he rose to the occasion in a slam final and played the right way, with courage & aggression. If he carries on doing that, I have no doubt he will win more than 1 slam.
One final point. Can you imagine any "real man", can you imagine, I don't know, John Wayne or Rocky Marciano or Ernest Hemingway, jeering at another man breaking down under the weight of crushing disappointment? Can you imagine any real man feeling the need to prove his manhood by jeering like a 10-year-old schoolboy at somebody expressing their heartbreak? And doing it obsessively & repeatedly? Because I can't. I'd imagine any real man would be confident enough to be generous and magnanimous in offering a friendly shoulder of support to another man in tears, & I am sure the sad little virginal twerps who have been deriding Murray have never experienced manhood outside shoot-'em-up computer games.

Absolutely brilliant as always Sophocles. Rhetoric is one of your strongest assets on this board. Shame little actually take notice. Hope you enjoyed this vcitory as much as I did.

Federer exposed his opponents weakness, just like Rafa does with feds backhand and so on. The federer volley si one of the all time greats, any other player could have tried their luck but most would have failed, after all they are playing Federer in a slam final.
Stupid post man

Re: Wimbledon Final 2012: Federer def. Murray 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4
Is there somewhere an image showing how wide Murray's last ball (on the last point of the match) was? Live it was too fast for my eyes to see it...

ROGER FEDERER: No, Roger Federer doesn't pull out. Otherwise he doesn't walk on court (smiling).
After losing to Nalbandian in 2005 TMC final...
