S.Q

#1 Can the umpire take a bathroom break?
#2 What's the biggest rankings jump a player has made in one season?
#3 In the top 100 which players hit the flattest? (Berdych and Cilic come to mind.)

- People talking about the 2012 Wimbledon Final, and that the roof closing helped Federer? Why is this? Why is Federer better indoors?

- Why do line judges not catch the ball when it's going directly at them? They wouldn't have to move their feet but they do mad stretches trying to get out of the way

there's a thread about it, search for 'flat' or 'flatter' in threads titles

surface plays faster so it favours Federer's game

Probably because you can hurt your fingers if you're off on the timing trying to catch the ball. But I've seen linesmen catching balls coming at them and then giving them to ballboys.

What exactly is a 0 pointer, and what impact could it have on a players ranking?

A 0 pointer is a result you can't replace with a better one, and it's given either for playing too few tournaments or for late withdrawals from them for insufficient reason. We can see the effect on Federer's ranking. He didn't play the obligatory four ATP500s last year, and so got a zero-pointer attached to his ranking. This was placed in Tokyo because that is where he would have to play (at the latest) to fulfill the obligation. After playing Hamburg, as he's going to next week, he will have four ATP500s the last 12 months, but he still has to count a zero for Tokyo until October.

So say Federer won Hamburg, he would not gain the 500 points until October?

He would gain the 500, but the 90 he got from Rotterdam would not count anymore (they do today) so his net plus would be 410. The zero-pointer cannot be replaced, but all the other ones can. So there's not more than 90 points in it for him now, but last year under similar circumstances he'd forgo 500 points as he had 500 from both Basel, Marseille and Dubai and the same zero-pointer from Tokyo. It other words, if he'd added Hamburg to his schedule last year even a win would - temporarily - have added nothing to his point total. He would have got those 500 points in October, though.

No, he'd be able to count it instead of a tournament where he gained a low number of points (Rotterdam).

Losing without putting up an effort. Occasionally a player won't feel a match is worth the effort, but show up just for the appearance money. This is, of course, not legal to do openly.

What is the point of the smaller singles nets on courts at grand slams? They only seem to be used on the main courts and at other events like masters 1000's etc, they are all the doubles net size.

Just looking at it I wasn't sure, but thought it OUGHT to be Tommy Haas - then I was watching a video where Tommy was interviewed and decided it did look a bit like him. Not the best likeness, though.

It's definitely not Haas.

I was told it might be Santiago Giraldo...Anybody can confirm?
